I finally got to see @jiacheng.jw at the LA Shorts Film Festival (her standee, technically 🥹), meet her incredibly talented team, and watch their short film The Eyeire (@the.eyeire ). 🤍

A few days before the screening, I started making this hanging piece as a gift for Jiacheng, inspired by the film and its protagonist, 涟诀. Her name has always felt especially beautiful to me — “涟” comes from 涟漪, or “ripples”: tiny waves spreading outward, quietly shifting everything around them.

It made me think of the ripples Jiacheng’s words created in my life many years ago. I finally got to turn that feeling into something I made and give it back to her. I genuinely feel like the happiest person in the world!! 🫀🌀

IMPRINT is coming home to LA! 🎥✨

We shot this film in the heart of Los Angeles last summer (2025), and one year later it’s screening at @hollyshorts in August.

Full circle moments like this feel extra special.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT 🎊 KoKo Raine is a MOVIE 🎥 STAR ⭐️😭🥹 Our baby girl got a LEAD ROLL in the film “IMPRINT” which has been in production (and why I’ve been MIA from here 😂) and I was lucky enough to be by her side throughout as her ‘personal’ 😅 hair & makeup artist 🥹🙏🏻😭
.
From the amazing Director & Writer Ran Jing @ranjing0108 this @americanfilminstitute DWW+ movie 🎥 is produced by @fionahardingham & @selena_moon_cat and is KoKo’s FIRST EVER acting 🎭 gig 🎉 (her character is also a dancer 💃🏼) so it truly felt like it was all ment to be when our good friend Fi (one of the producers) approached us about KoKo reading & auditioning for the part!
.
This film isn’t a fairytale.. it’s got weight to it and is emotionally driven so for KoKo’s first time acting I’ve been blown away by her professionalism and what seems to be a ‘natural talent’ 🥹 we’ve literally just wrapped production and to be with her every step of the way throughout this little journey, her first ever experience of working in film has been one of the most proud & rewarding experiences of my life 😭 witnessing first hand her crushing it has just blown my mind and all without “formal” training -apart from her dance 💃🏼 lessons & performances- this is her first ever acting 🎭 debut and I can safely say (without sounding like a “stage mum” 😝)
THE GIRLS DONE GOOD 🙌🏻👊🏻💥🥹
.
CAN’T WAIT to share more with you all soon 🎉

One of my favourite things about @16days16films is working on the filmmaker interviews. Every year we have the most fabulous team pulling this together for us. And this year our team have all been volunteers.
If we could afford to keep them, we would make every single one of them a permanent part of our team - everyone has been so brilliant. If you have a chance to work with any of them - do it. And when you’re looking to hire, please look out for these amazing humans: Joe Wallace @joefargo (for a second year – thank you!), Solveig Herzum @gingertina13, Samir Modi @createdby_samir, Jamie Perault @jamiseenscene – all brought to us by the fabulous Miranda Stern @_miranda_stern_ who has been working with us since her first films were showcased in our final 16 in 2018. Added to that @beya_chinyere_ for an urgent interview and Iona Ward who recommended by my friend Paul @smithyshere jumped in to do some urgent edits - of course pulling all our video posts together is Neill Francis @neillfrancisdop at Indigo Rebel @indigorebelfilms with the graphics, scheduling and posts of @wildernessocial. 16 films and 16 interview all beautifully managed by these wonderful humans. Everyone this year did this purely for the love of the project.
I’m both proud that we have an event that elicits such passionate support, and equally not proud, as we truly value each member of our team’s skillset, we want them all to feel equally valued by us.
This year we were at risk of having to cancel 16 Days 16 Films, due to lack of funds so this is a personal shout out to you all for your time and commitment.
And I haven’t even started on the rest of the team and supporters who jumped in where needed…
If you haven’t already please check out 16 Days 16 Films – watch a few films too, each click and each shout out helps us get closer to our goal of keeping this initiative running and developing it further so we can continue to highlight the incredible film talent out there. And help to engage and educate audiences about a human rights issue and violation that is ultimately solvable if we all take our part. #endvaw

It looks like it’s been about a year since I last posted anything on social media - that makes sense. But I’ve not been off it completely – we’ve been working hard over @16days16films to bring you an amazing selection of films.

This is an important project to me – and I wish I were better at shouting about it, as this subject and all these films deserve to be seen and talked about by as many of you as possible. And while not all these films are an easy watch, some are truly empowering and each one has something important to contribute to the conversation around ending violence against women and girls. My hope is that more and more of us will engage in that conversation and educate ourselves.

I learn so much each year working with some incredible humans who have made ending gender based violence their life’s work. And being able to do something that might just have an effect on the way one person thinks and acts in the world let alone a few, feels worth it to me. Platforming these filmmakers for telling these stories might just help them feel really seen and find it easier to keep choosing to tell stories that could help to drive change – again, feels worth it to me..

The selection of media above should give you an idea of what we’re all about.

If you don’t already – please follow @16days16films. And while 16 Days of Activisim Against Gender based Violence may be over, most of our films are still up until Christmas Eve. In fact, if you watch the films now at 16days16films.com/thefilms, you can vote for your favourite.

I know we’re all so busy – especially this time of year, but just take a minute to have a look, and maybe watch just one film – I don’t think you’ll regret it. :)
