In 2022, during the 500th pivot with my restaurant, with zero political aspirations in my mind, my business sponsored quite possibly the biggest pride flag in north county after @pridebythebeach asked to put their little flag up on the @oceansidemuseum exterior wall in which I was a Board Member. Aesthetically I thought their flag would look like a postage stamp.

I didn’t see myself as an advocate for this cause, just more about how an event space would look like and how the museum would look in participation. For me, this was about decor and supporting nonprofits.

@mainstreetoceanside created a post which followed with 100+ comments of such vitriol that I was set in disbelief. Part of me wanted to not respond and thought to myself, hey I’m not LGBTQ, this is their fight. Good luck with that. But I realized as the sponsor that at the very least a response was in order.

However this thought came into mind: If my daughters were in love with someone good but not typical, then so be it. Just don’t come home with a jack@ss or become one. And why would they have to walk a life hiding one of their core aspects in life. Love

At our @nowellfamily A Sublime Life Festival, I spoke with literally a thousand folks recovering from addiction and their core roots that caused it. It’s the stigma and shame people are put through that can take someone battling their own minds and completely incinerate them when they see society pouring salt on their wounds.

When you heard me rant about being so sick and tired, it’s the exhaustion of watching people tribalize for hate. Before seeing the beauty in a person…they initiate with malice.

I don’t hate those that do either because of just how insecure we know they are to provoke in such a manner (just watch the comments if it does happen here 😆)

As an elected and entrepreneur, I really just want to talk numbers, budget and operations. But I do realize my position on social aspects comes with the job. My stance hasn’t changed since I purchased and hung that flag. Love you all. Happy Pride Month. Semper Fidelis
