December 19, 2024: The day I became a GMU grad with a bachelor’s degree in Health Administration with a concentration in Health Systems Management💚👩🏻‍🎓💛 #classof2024

Grateful to have reached this huge milestone, especially after the challenges I faced with my health during my second semester at GMU in 2022. I’m proud of myself for not taking any semesters off due to my health and instead continuing to push through each semester. Going from 127lbs to 100lbs due to a stomach virus that led to other abnormal symptoms not allowing me to feel like myself not only affected me physically but mentally as well. The journey was tough, but I found strength and resilience through the love and support of my family, friends, and God.
During this time, my parents bought me Sonic, my pet bird, in August 2022. He wasn’t just any bird—he had the personality of a dog and a monkey all in one. His tricks and goofiness made me laugh when I needed it most, offering a sense of comfort and lightness during tough times. Sonic became my little companion through those challenging months. His sudden passing the day before my graduation on December 18 was a tough loss, but I pushed through, holding on to the joy he brought into my life.
2023 marked the beginning of my comeback. I started to absorb all my vitamins and nutrients again, gained weight, and began feeling like myself again. My health struggles and the perseverance required to overcome them played a huge role in my decision to pursue healthcare administration. As a patient navigating the healthcare system, advocating for myself, and researching the best practices for my health needs, I developed a deep passion for improving the way healthcare is delivered.
I couldn’t have done it without the unwavering motivation and encouragement from those around me. This is more than just a graduation—it’s a testament to perseverance, faith, and the incredible people who lifted me when I needed it most.
