This day was very emotional day for me. I cried seeing my work hang up together like this. It’s been a while since my work has been in a show. The first time my work in this style has been in a show. These pieces have been tucked away in my closet for a couple years now. (With the exception of Naudia’s piece)

I’m so grateful for my community, thankful to @tub.ular for asking me to be apart of this show, thankful for @naudynaudie being a muse and even more thankful for the beautiful people I met and talked with! I hope to be in more shows, create more art and most importantly continue to be surrounded by beautiful energy.

My heart is filled with so much love.

Handwoven Medium Sized Handbag made by me.

Made from a cardboard loom with acrylic and mohair yarn paired with Kumihimo handles.

Reminds me of rocks on the water.

Even in uncertainty, she chose to look forward || Self Portrait || Acrylic on Canvas 16 x 24

As a black woman I don’t want to be remembered for my resilience, strength or self determination. Rather for my courage to encourage vulnerability while also standing in it.

At the time I started this painting I was working 2 jobs, had my first apartment that I ain’t love and a over looming uncertainty of how I’d venture my way through life as an artist. I was inspired by cacti salt and pepper shakers; the combination of red and green had infiltrated my mind. I had a tendency of holding or trying to hold on to things that no longer served me. There were so many instances where I tried to force things to work that in the end it was extremely hard for me to let go. I was sick of this action too, continuously trying to cage things that were screaming at me that they wanted to be free.

It took me a year to finish this painting and in a way I consider it as a way of choosing myself. A confirmation to myself that in the end. I’m always a advocate for my comfort. Even in the midst of all the uncertainty, I still looked forward to carry on. Without denying my vulnerability and sensitivity I allowed it to accompany me. While I feared if I made the right choice. I knew that either way I’d have the ability to handle it. Even if I had to cry first.

While growth may encompass pain; I feel lessons are necessary for strong roots. You can’t form anything without a proper foundation. The foundation I’m continuously crafting is my belief in my ability to overcome, adapt but most importantly - allow myself grace in the process.
