Last critique of 2026 with these fine humans before I leave for sabbatical. Teaching is one of the great joys of my life, and in many ways it feels like one of the biggest parts of who I am these days. I have spent a lot of my time thinking about the people in this photo over the last few years, pulling images, articles, and books for them. Telling stories, telling jokes, listening to their banter, their quiet thoughts and deeper feelings. We have gone on walks and eaten questionable potluck contributions together, and I got to watch them triumph and fail day after day. It's addicting, being around that kind of dogged pursuit- seeing those brilliant moments of realization and awakening right in front of me. What a privilege to witness such becoming.

Thanks for making my life so interesting, I'm very grateful.

“Enjoying Yourself?”
Oil on Canvas, 22” x 28”

Holy miracle painting. As a notoriously slow painter, this was the most ambitious project I have ever taken on and I am so incredibly proud (and shocked?) that I actually pulled it off. Not only was this one of my biggest paintings I have ever created, I finished it in 5 days (three of which were all nighters [two of which were consecutive]). Am I still recovering from this crazy stint? Yes. Am I still riding that sense of raw pride and relief? Also yes. Here’s to setting a new record of 29 consecutive hours straight spent on one painting, and here’s to hopefully never beating this record again. Cheers 😋✨

I Bite Back

Cast bronze, cast silicone, steel

This piece is the most ambitious thing I have tried so far within my casting exploration. I hadn’t done a metal pour in a year but I was ready to hit the ground running in ART448 this quarter. This piece took 100+ hours and so many lessons learned along the way. Slowly chipping away, several all nighters. But it was a huge success and I am so proud of how she turned out. This piece is all about the push and pull of protection and restraint. Inspired by medieval devices that acted like a ball gag for women accused of being witches, along with gladiator helmets and bronze’s role in antiquity. I am so grateful for being able to explore metal casting at cal poly during my BFA and hoping to keep this a part of my practice in the future :)

“Crass Knuckles” aluminum cast

This piece was created in conversation with my “Smile” aluminum cast from last year. Together they take a more humorous, ironic, tongue-in-cheek approach to the themes I explore in my painting series. The context they provide about performance and gaze gives a more well-rounded analysis on the nuances of feminine queer sexuality that I aim to convey.
