As a Master Printer for 16 years in South Africa, I collaborated with over 100 artists; most notably, William Kentridge. Throughout my work, I have promoted and enhanced artist, collector, and public knowledge of printmaking through exhibition programming. In 2021 Jillian Ross Print (JRP) was founded in Saskatoon with my husband Brendan Copestake, a public art project manager. JRP is a collaborative print studio and print publisher that focuses on collaborative projects in South Africa and Canada.

NEW BLOG | 'Sieistog' by Penny Siopis.

In the early 2000s, Penny Siopis began uncovering the various connotations that live within the feeling of shame. The initial works in this series were paintings featuring the emotive warm tones and eerie figures that we associate with the artist; in 2003, Siopis was invited to the David Krut Workshop, which was then a much smaller studio, located on Jan Smuts Avenue. During this time, the intricate work ‘Siestog’ was produced.

'Siestog' is currently on show as part of the 'Women in the Workshop' exhibition at the Blue House.

"Reflecting on our journey, it is evident that there is always more to discover within the realm of printmaking. ⚡WILLIAM KENTRIDGE | DAVID KRUT WORKSHOP | 'The Old Gods Have Retired'

Currently happening at the #DavidKrutWorkshop is the continious production of the large scale William Kentridge artwork 'The Old Gods Have Retired'. Here you can see printer Kim Lee Loggenberg preparing and cropping one of the sheets for the artwork. 'The Old Gods Have Retired' is quite literally pieced together from fragments on a monumental scale.

✨These feature pieces of maps, segments of hand painted chine-collé and collage papers and dislocated text in addition to the twelve overlapping sheets printed from direct gravure plates that make up the image in totality.

#WilliamKentridge Wednesday | The David Krut Workshop
Ever wonder how those gigantic William Kentridge prints are made? Currently in production at the David Krut Workshop is the 'Old Gods Have Retired' print made in collaboration with Jillian Ross Print. Come through to the #DavidKrutWorkshop, located in Maboneng, to see the printmakers in action!🔥

The creation of 'The Old Gods Have Retired' work speaks to Kentridge’s deep understanding and appreciation of the concept of collaboration and his
uninterrupted engagement of multiple collaborators to realise large-scale projects, regardless of sudden and unforeseen changes in circumstance.
In the context of trees, The Old Gods Have Retired touches on the groundbreaking research by Suzanne Simard and her own collaborators, that reimagines the forest as more than just a collection of trees.🌿
