Forever and ever, Shadow cat puppy

-

As a college student, I didn’t see Shadow much in his final years here on Earth. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t feel the cute little black puppy’s presence wherever I went.

When I was at school, I’d ask for videos of him through our family Snapchat group. It would bring me comfort and ease my stress significantly when those videos came in.

When I was home, he would curl up on my lap and lay soundly, usually snoring or at least making some sort of soft pug noises from his rumpled snout.

Shadow was the silent, but mighty rock of the household. He kept people calm. He gave his brother Bandit companionship. He never begged for food (though Bandit was a different story). He was small, but mighty; a true embodiment of the phrase, not an exaggeration of himself.

Shadow, in other words, was bigger than himself. He was kind, courteous, a people pleaser and cuddler, a lover.

No, he is. Wherever he goes next, Shadow will continue to be that companion to others. He will find another couch to settle down on, and it will be enough for all around. His presence will continue to be enough.

Oh, Shadow, I’ll always carry you with me. You will always make up a chunk of the eternal happiness within me.

I wish you the very best. You’ll be the best lapdog wherever you go next.
