garden still life or endless beauty, 2025

“I think the photo is from summer 2025 because I was taking alot of photos of flowers then. I don’t remember taking this photo though. I guess it could be called garden still life or endless beauty, but that is maybe boring, but less boring than calling it untitled. I guess you could just copy and paste all of this.”

On March 10-11, @mocatoronto and @agotoronto are hosting Collective Views: A Symposium on Photography in Toronto. This symposium offers a chance to reflect on Toronto and its relationship to photography. Across three sessions spanning the 1970s to the present, it brings together artists, artworks, cultural figures, scholars, exhibitions, organizations, collections, art schools, and publications that have shaped evolving understandings of the city and the medium - describing Toronto as a place where photography continues to be vital, generative, and connective.

The symposium is co-presented on the occasion of Collective Visions: Celebrating 25 Years of Photography at the AGO and Jeff Wall: Photographs, 1984-2023 at MOCA - details at ago.ca

In case you missed it, Canadian harpist and composer Justin Karas announced this week that hr will release his debut solo album, Flowers Wild Abound, on September 12, 2025.

A collection of intricately layered chamber-folk songs exploring memory, nature, and connection, the album arrives following years of quiet development and sonic experimentation.

Co-produced with experimental harpist Sarah Pagé, Flowers Wild Abound is a sonically lush and emotionally open work. Listen to “The Train” out everywhere now!

🌸Flowers Wild Abound🌸 out September 12th

This is the first album I’ve made with the harp at its center. These songs speak in the language of wildflowers, living in quiet spaces and offered in the simple hope of beauty.

This was a labor of love shaped over many years. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who walked alongside me during the process, especially Sarah Pagé, who co-produced the album with me and helped throughout every step with patience, generosity, and presence.

I got my first harp in the fall of 2019, after dreaming of the instrument for ages. Two years later, I began making this album, having fully fallen for the harp’s voice. I wrote with a kind of urgency I hadn’t felt in a long while. I finished old songs, reworked forgotten fragments, and discovered new ones as I leaned into the instrument and let it lead. It was a balm, steeping in the wilderness within its strings.

I’m excited to share more in the coming weeks
