Basic Income for The Arts In Ireland

Well done to Irelands Department of Culture for announcing it will support 2,000 Irish artists by providing a Basic Income for the Arts (BIA).

The basic income will provide recipients with €325 (£282) a week for three years. This approach sees culture as part of a growth strategy.

The programme, Europe’s first, was started as a project to rebuild the cultural sector following the pandemic - initiated by Green party politician Catherine Martin.

Following a pilot launched in the spring of 2022, the scheme was implemented in 2025.

According to the Irish government, the investment is creating positive returns, for every €1 of public money invested in the pilot, society received €1.39 in return.

My photography of @guccini_jingyi in her studio residency and at the private view of her stunning solo show “Of Broken Myths and Becoming Dawn” at Noiascape Gallery (2025)

JINGYI is a London-based artist, writer, and researcher working across visual arts and performance. Her practice, rooted in the language of montage and scenography, explores myths, symbols, and inherited patterns that quietly shape the contemporary life. Treating them as systems to be hacked, her works combine critical research with the everyday life to examine transformation as both a personal and cultural process.

Her artistic practice has been showcased at “Of Broken Myths and Becoming Dawn” at Noiascape Gallery (2025),“Mythology Inspired” at Loosenart Rome (2024), “Violent Divinity”at Luckypot (2024), Hollywood Fringe Festival (2023), Somerset House (2022), etc., with raving reviews from Gallery Bagging, British Asian Collective, Skinny Mag, etc.. She has given workshop & talks to OutsideIn, Stills Edinburgh, and Central Saint Martins UAL. She is currently working as curatorial associate with Apperley Arts and Curating Visibility co-producer with London Museum.

Very happy and excited to meet @guccini_jingyi again.
Back in @pavillonsouthway, we talked about bodies and identities, and how disability is a powerful journey of discovery.

This exhibition explores what it means to live in a world where identity is never fixed. It lingers on moments of detachment: when a body changes, when we move away from home, or when the world sees us differently than we see ourselves. Rather than smoothing over these instabilities, Jingyi meets them directly. Her works move through cycles of myth and memory, tracing the patterns we inherit, and the ones we choose to break.

🥂 Come meet us!
Opening: Friday 21 November, 6-9pm
Exhibition Dates: 22-23 November, 10:00-18:00; 24-28 November
by appointment only (DM me or @guccini_jingyi)
Venue: Noiascape, 83 Askew Road, London
W12 9AH

REPOST: Noiascape is delighted to support our resident artist, writer, and researcher, Jingyi, in her solo exhibition, Of Broken Myths and Becoming Dawn.

Jingyi’s practice traces moments of rupture, when identity, memory, and meaning lose coherence and begin again. Through image, sound, and spatial montage, she transforms fragments into modern allegories where haunting, loss, and renewal coexist in quiet tension. Alongside her artistic practice, Jingyi is the Curating Visibility Co-producer at @wearelondonmuseum where she contributes to projects that explore representation, belonging, and visibility in contemporary culture.

Through paintings and video works, this exhibition explores what it means to live in a world where identity is never fixed.

Of Broken Myths and Becoming Dawn takes place in our shared space at 83 Askew Road, where the everyday rhythms of working and studying become an invitation for residents and the local community to experience how art can inhabit lived space. At Noiascape, we connect young creatives with their neighbourhoods, allowing art to seep into daily life, transforming familiar gestures into quiet acts of awareness, and shared spaces into places of belonging and renewal.
