What makes a mystery worth reading? A compelling detective, a web of secrets, clues that don’t quite add up, and a final revelation that changes everything you thought you knew.

Those are the ingredients I love in detective fiction, and they’re at the heart of my novel, Colonel Khan and the Mystery of the Falcon Feather.

As a mystery novelist, I’ve always been drawn to stories where the investigation goes beyond the obvious, where people aren’t necessarily who they claim to be, and where the truth is buried beneath layers of deception.

The novel brings those elements into a South Asian mystery, blending the intrigue of a whodunit with character-driven suspense, hidden connections, and the slow unraveling of a larger puzzle.

If you enjoy Desi fiction, South Asian crime fiction, psychological thrillers, and mystery novels that invite you to question every assumption, this is the kind of story I hope you’ll discover.

Because the best mysteries don’t merely ask who did it. They make you question what you thought you knew all along.

What draws you to a mystery novel first: the detective, the suspects, or the promise of an unforgettable twist?
