Trauma feels at times crushing. Healing is not linear and takes up a lot of space. Sometimes that space feels empty, and lonely. On Thursday, May 16th, 2024 @tbtrout03 and I attended Trauma Survivor Day at @mhshospital. We honestly didn’t know what to expect as we signed in, and were handed an orange wrist band learning the wrist band coordinated with the rescue workers that saved us the night of the accident. As we navigated the room searching for the matching wrist band to ours, trauma responses kicked in. Feelings of anxiousness, flashbacks of that night, and moments of overwhelm. As we approached the hero’s that saved us {not all were able to attend} Tom and I both lost ourselves in the moment and tears of gratitude came pouring out. The day was extremely emotional, listening to other survivors stories and the journeys they have embarked on to find their inner strength to overcome. Trauma isn’t just what happens to you it’s how you react to it. One thing that all of us survivors have in common is we all believe in a power bigger than us, whatever that looks like to each of us is different, but we all have faith. My deepest appreciation and gratitude to every single person that has held space for Tom and I on this incredible journey. To the doctors, the EMT rescue, the cops, the witnesses @954grelli and @jjakepalmer, the nurses, the radiology department, the administrators, friends, family, every single person that offered us care and help, and especially Memorial Hospital and all involved for recognizing trauma and the gravity it has on not only the patients but also the families involved. This is now who we are… that night of January 7th changed our lives forever, in an instant. Knowing we have a support system to lean on is appreciated and honestly, necessary. We are in deep gratitude knowing each day is a gift and how fortunate we are to have the opportunity to open this gift each day! #TraumaSurvivor #TraumaSurvivorDay #Heros #EverydayPeople #Survivors #Strong {photo credit to @sunsentinel} {media credit to @wsvn}

{this is a long post}

Time is elusive, it’s slippery and still, it’s dynamic and static, it’s constant and fickle.

If I could change time that night, I would, or perhaps the universe had already written this story for me and time was just a factor in space…

This last year has stripped me down, I felt abused, neglected, betrayed, lost.
I felt physical and emotional pain I was not aware a human was capable of feeling.

I was terrified, I suffered with crippling anxiety, anger, confusion, feelings of complete emptiness. I was vulnerable and shown vulnerability.

I also chose to love, find gratitude, compassion, understanding, sincerity. #Grateful #Survivor #Trauma #BeYou #Thankful {rest of story in comments}
