As you may have noticed from the highlights that Marcus Aurelius Anderson (@marcusaureliusanderson) has shared, I recently recorded an Acta Non Verba podcast episode about my first nonfiction book, The War of Leadership. I also recorded an Acta Non Verba episode last year focused on my fiction works ahead of the release of The Earthmight War. I always find my conversations with Marcus interesting and enlightening, and I hope you will as well. You can find the links to listen to both of these episodes via the LinkTree in my bio: https://linktr.ee/jjasonhicks Thank you for joining both Marcus and me in the arena! #RuinwastersBane #TheLandsOfTheEarth #TheLayOfMontmorillionite #TheEarthmightWar #FantasyFiction #FantasyBookSeries #FantasyLiterature #FantasyFridays #FantasyAuthor #FantasyWriter #TheWarOfLeadership #WarOfLeadership #LeadershipLessonsLearned #Leadership Jason's headshot with the Acta Non Verba podcast background

Happy Independent Book Store Day! I always love it when folks buy my art and then they share their goodies by posting on their stories or their Instagram feed. Framed or unframed, I love seeing where my art lives. It’s the coolest feeling! Also, when people share my art, it supports my small business. Sharing is caring! On Sunday morning at the @latimesfob I shopped around all the vendors near me. I got to know all my neighbors and I made new friends! So now I’m sharing what I bought: • @the_typin_pint I bought an instant poem about me! Armed with a vintage typewriter, Bryan Mahoney writes poems on the spot! I love my poem and I can’t wait to frame it. • @naomivandoren bought the cutest pins from this talented illustrator and writer! Her booth design was also lovely. • I got to meet @author.nydia.armendia and I bought her Frida book at the @belcantobooks booth and I bought @nathaliealonsobooks Fernando Valenzuela book, too! Both books are for me! • Met @teresaverduzcoauthor and I bought her Domnigos Con Abuelita book! • Met @marcymahoneyauthor and @captainblackquill and bought their books for my kids! • My immediate neighbors were @jjasonhicks and @stevenpiskula and I bought their books, too! Fun guys and they told me I should go to the Tucson Book Festival next year! Please follow all the small businesses above! Thank you Festival of books for the most amazing weekend! I hope to be back next year. 🫶🏽

What a Weekend at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books (@latimesfob)! The LATFOB was quite an experience. The setting was gorgeous. White tents sprawled out over the campus in a delightful maze of alleyways and intersections. My booth-mate, Steven Piskula (@stevenpiskula), tantalized curious readers with his medical thriller The First Harm. And, our exhibitor neighbors were fantastic too. We met Susana Sanchez (@thedesigningchica) and admired her jam-packed booth of art, stickers, and posters. I also saw an author I met at Reader Nation and Author Nation, Greg Sorber (@gregerationx). As always, people loved the book art and the map of The Lands of the Earth. I met a young man who commented on how The War of Leadership reminded him of The War of Art by Steven Pressfield (@steven_pressfield). I was honored to share with him the blurb Steve wrote for the book: "Hicks’ The War of Leadership sets new records for concentrated wisdom. There’s more heavy-duty cargo in ten pages of Mr. Hicks’ book than in the full truckload of anyone else’s." As always, the experiences of meeting and talking with readers, other authors, and our West Coast friends stood out among a host of vignettes and experiences from the weekend. If you were there, thank you for being a part of such a memorable festival! If you weren't able to join us, I hope to see you at an event soon. Remember that all events are posted on the Linktree in my bio: https://linktr.ee/jjasonhicks Thank you for joining me in the arena for this venture! #RuinwastersBane #TheLandsOfTheEarth #TheLayOfMontmorillionite #TheEarthmightWar #FantasyFiction #FantasyBookSeries #FantasyLiterature #FantasyFridays #FantasyAuthor #FantasyWriter #TheWarOfLeadership #WarOfLeadership #LeadershipLessonsLearned #Leadership #LATFOB #LATFOB2026 Jason and Steve standing in front of the banners with their book covers on them; the table in front of them has copies of their books

On Acta Non Verba 299 author, technologist, and storyteller J. Jason Hicks returns to dig into his new nonfiction book “The War of Leadership: Hard Lessons and Practical Truths for Surviving In and Beyond Leadership.” Drawing from 30 years in the corporate world, Jason unpacks the uncomfortable truths that no one tells new leaders: the manipulation, the blind spots, the politics, and the quiet treachery of organizational life. We also explore why awareness of dark leadership tactics doesn’t make you a bad leader, it makes you a prepared one. We also cover the craft of writing, the role of AI in creative work, and why the human element in art, music, and literature will never be replaceable. Find out more at linktr.ee/jjasonhicks and on social media @jjasonhicks and check out his incredible works of fiction “Ruin Waters: Bane Book One of the Annals of the Last Emissary,” followed by the second book in the series, “The Earth, My War.” Watch and listen to the rest of this ACTA NON VERBA episode, subscribe, share with your network, and review on YouTube and anywhere you listen to podcasts ☑️ #actanonverbapodcast

“It’s better to be agreeable and wrong than disagreeable and right. You’ll be remembered for being disagreeable. You won’t be remembered for being right.” @jjasonhicks -J. Jason Hicks, The War of Leadership Nobody hands you a manual when you step into leadership. They hand you a title, a team, and a whole lot of problems nobody warned you about. J. Jason Hicks spent 30 years in the corporate world learning what they don’t teach you. The manipulation, the politics, the blind spots, the moments where good people get turned into something they never intended to be. His new book “The War of Leadership” is the handbook you should’ve gotten on day one and I highly recommend it to any leader. Follow J. Jason Hicks and check out “The War of Leadership” as well as his incredible fiction “Ruinwaster’s Bane” series anywhere you buy books. 🕯️2025 wrap up!🕯️ Hey friends!!! I hope your holidays went well, read a lot of books? Eat good food? See family? TRAVEL? Let me know!! Here is a long overdue wrap up of the year! I learned a lot about myself, my reading and what I want my account to be! Some of my goals are to read more off my shelves and dig deep into the friendships I’ve made :) it was an interesting reading year but, one of my highest rated years in a while! My average was 4 stars! - if you could describe your reading year in one word, what would it be? Rewarding! - Tessa :p
