It's true, everyone’s going to die. Some of us could also become excellent garden soil.

This November 1st, in honor of the Day of the Dead, we’re excited to present the Chicago premiere of the moving and hopeful doc THE LIFE WE LEAVE as a Speak Truth screening on 11/1 at 7pm. at the @davistheater.

Join us for an evening discussing life, death, and the things that really matter. Before the film, visit our ofrenda in front of the theater, write a note to someone you’ve lost and place it on the altar.

See you at the Davis for a fascinating portrait of an entrepreneur working to build the world’s first large-scale terramation facility and re-discovering human connection, ritual, and legacy. With a Speak Truth panel discussion following the film with director JJ Gerber, IL State Senator Celina Villanueva, bill sponsor for legalizing human composting in Illinois, and Brooke Benjamin, Inclusive Care Funeral Home Director.

Please join the film team and local experts for a wide-ranging community discussion about the film and its themes. The panel will begin with an open Q&A to explore the issues the film helps viewers to consider. Participants will then be invited to join smaller facilitated groups to explore their particular interests, including:

- Grief, ritual, and changing expectations surrounding deathcare
- A terramation teach in: How it works, what it costs, and what else you should know
-Next steps with legislation to legalize the process in Utah

The event will include director JJ Gerber, film participant Micah Truman, Clementine Briand, producer, Shayneh Starks, Starks Funeral Parlor and Zaneta Gileno, Thanatologist. Katie Noble will moderate. Free refreshments for this panel provided by Red Bicycle Breadworks.

Tickets to panel discussions include a 2hr free electric bike rental courtesy of Summit County Bike Share. Code will be sent with ticket.

The opening night film, "The Life We Leave," is SOLD OUT.

Our New York State premiere at Lake Placid Film Fest (@adirondackfilm ) will be November 6th!

🍂🍂Upstate New York in the fall? What could be better?!

Did you know?: Terramation is legal in NY State but is legislated in a way that makes it difficult to access, confining the process and resulting soil to non-profit cemeteries ⚰️

We'd love to hear from New Yorkers if you've looked into it, and what your experience has been?
