With a heavy heart, I have to share that my friend & legendary storyboard artist J. Todd Anderson has passed. I waited until the news was publicly reported out of respect for his family.

J. Todd was an incredible storyboard artist, filmmaker, & loved cars. He has a Corvette, I have a Corvette, & we could spend hours talking about both old movies, new movies, & everything in between. I’m really going to miss those conversations.

For those who may not know his work, J. Todd was the Coen brothers’ storyboard artist dating back to Raising Arizona. Beyond his work with the Coens, he created storyboards for filmmakers including Shane Black (The Nice Guys, The Predator), George Clooney (Leatherheads), & the original Twister, among many others.

I had the privilege of working with him on a movie. Meeting him was a genuine treat & more importantly, a huge learning experience.

It’s hard to process that he’s gone, especially because I had dinner with him just a few days before he was hospitalized.
He had been battling cancer & was participating in an experimental treatment that, from what he told me, was working. He also was trying to direct another movie, his third. At dinner, he told me he wanted to direct one more film & hopefully do at least one more Coen brothers movie before he was finished.

Whenever J. Todd was in town, he would usually stay with Shane Black, & I’d pick him up & we’d go to dinner. Most often, it was J. Todd, our mutual friend & director Michelle, & me. Those nights & conversations are memories I’ll always treasure.

My condolences go out to his family & to all of his friends & collaborators, including Shane Black, Joel & Ethan Coen, & everyone who had the privilege of working with him. I know they’ll miss him—not only as a friend, but creatively as well.

One of the things J. Todd left me is a copy of The Big Lebowski storyboard book that he personally signed for me. It was already a special gift. Now, it’s a treasure.

RIP, J. Todd. Thank you for the stories, the laughs, the movies, the car conversations, & all the great nights. You will be deeply missed.

#nowplaying I've been in the mood to rewatch this Coen Brothers film from 2013. Inside Llewyn Davis was inspired by Dave Van Ronk's memoir, The Mayor of MacDougal Street, and the title of the movie evokes DVR's 1964 album, Inside Dave Van Ronk. However, Joel and Ethan Coen have said it was never meant to be a biopic or adaptation of the book. Oscar Isaac's performance is brilliant as the prickly but talented folksinger, Llewyn Davis. This was right before his career exploded, and he seemed to be in every damned movie that came out for the next few years. #coenbrothers #bluraycollection #moviecollector #filmcollection
