When I first started playing basketball, I didn’t have goals of playing professionally.

I just loved the game.

I’d go down to the courts for hours. No pressure. No expectations. Just me, a ball my imagination and a hoop.

Then I started getting better.

The work started to show, and with that came goals.

Average 20. Win a championship. Go to college. Play professionally. I even dreamed about the NBA.

The bigger I dreamed, the harder I worked.

I became more disciplined. More obsessed. More focused.

I was in pursuit.

And eventually, some of those dreams became my reality.

I went to college. I became a professional. Basketball took me around the world.

But somewhere along the way, something changed.

The more I achieved, the harder it became to find that same spark I had as a kid.

More pressure. Bigger slumps. Expectations. Politics.

I’ve played this game for 24 years.

I’ve been obsessed with it. I’ve tolerated it. I’ve absolutely hated it at times.

But I’ve always come back to it, never gave up.

Basketball has taken me around the world, paid my bills, introduced me to some of my best friends and taught me more about discipline, sacrifice and resilience than anything else ever could.

It’s been my greatest teacher.

Looking back, one of the best decisions I ever made was not quitting.

Through the setbacks. The bullshit. The politics.

I kept fighting for it.

And after 24 years, I’ve finally realised something.

I spent so much time chasing the next goal, the next level, the next achievement that I forgot why I picked up a basketball in the first place.

I played because I loved it.

So this next chapter is about getting back to that kid who could spend hours at the courts with nothing to prove.

Just because he loved to hoop.

And helping the next generation chase their dreams without losing the why reason why they started playing in the first place.

#BuiltDifferent.
