WE ARE STILL HERE
Honoring Indigenous Resistance on Indigenous Peoples Day

We are the descendants of great people
Who never stopped singing our songs
Dancing our dances and telling our stories
Even when those who came to our lands
To steal, silence, and erase us from this world
Our people stood strong as mountains
Even when they banned our language
And ripped us from the land we love
We continued and we persisted
Through the heartache of losing so many
And losing more than there are words for
WE ARE STILL HERE
We are the descendants of the survivors
Survivors of genocides and holocausts
We are made of their love and their courage
WE ARE STILL HERE
We are the future ancestors of great people
People who will change this world for the better
Who will be made up of our love and our courage
WE ARE STILL HERE
So don’t allow anyone to write or speak of us in past tense
Our ways are still living and still evolving
We are still dancing and we are still singing

We are still protecting this sacred earth with all we got
No matter how much they try to force us into poverty and oppression, we will continue to rise together
To take care of one another because we got us
And all of our ancestors got us too
All of our living gods and goddesses got us too

We will continue!
We are not free until we are all free!

Free Palestine
Free the Congo
Free Sudan
Free West Papua
Free Turtle Island
Free Hawai‘i
FREE US ALL!

It will always be Landback, Bodies-back, Sovereignty-back, Everything Sacred Back!

Kū Kia‘i Honua! May the warriors of this earth continue to rise like a mighty wave!

I celebrate our resistance and our continued existence today and every day.

Sharing this today because I was living indigenously yesterday at IPD New York. Reflections about returning to that ceremony coming in on the Kona winds.

See you on the mauna!

Te Ao Mana Makahiki ʻUmi 🎂🌺🥂

In 2016, Te Ao Mana began with a vision: to create space for our culture, for our people to be seen and heard, and for our stories to be shared and celebrated.

Tatou Festival is a reflection of that belief. It’s more than an event on the calendar. It’s a place to dance, create, learn, ask questions, and grow together, face-to-face. More than anything, it’s a home.

With over 40,000 Pacific Islanders calling New York City home, we’re here to keep our culture alive and our community strong. Through Pacific Island dance classes, cultural workshops, advocacy, and gatherings rooted in the traditions of Moana Nui, there’s a place for you here, whether you grew up on the islands or in the diaspora.

Mahalo nui to our TAM Ohana who has been part of this journey 🙏🏽 This is your milestone as much as ours 🌊

Celebrate Makahiki ʻUmi (10 years) with us at Tatou Festival, October 16-18.
