The concept was simple: we provide a small canvas, you create art on it & return it to us. We mount it in a weatherproof brick & install it on the street. The call was open for 3 days. We didn't know what to expect; we anticipated 30, maybe 60 people would want in? But by opening night, we had 116 art bricks to display. Because I have no self-control, before we opened, we put out 48 more blank canvases for visitors to take, if they felt inspired to join after seeing what we were building. And within the week, all of those were gone, too. Lethbridge is hungry for public art, but more than that: they're hungry to be part of it, too. Not to be dramatic, but seeing people from all backgrounds, all experiences, ages & mediums creating for this project has changed me forever. You remind me, over & over again, that a better world is possible. And for that, I cannot thank you enough. OUR FIRST 21 PIECES FOR POCKET GALLERY, Pt. 2 ARE OUT IN THE WORLD. One gallery, four opportunities to see it with us & for one fleeting moment, the physical collection was all in one place. Thank you for braving the hottest days of summer to immerse yourself in local art & experience the city through the eyes of creatives both from our city & beyond. But as is physics, What Goes Up, Must Come Down, & the Pocket Galleries are no exception: one by one, they're being plucked off the walls & finding new temporary homes on the streets of southern Alberta. There are 21 new ones out in the world as of yesterday ✌️ Of course, we documented the entire exhibit before it came down but we're prioritizing getting the rest of the Pocket Galleries street-side before the video tour goes live.
