obviously there comes with a lot of benefits to moving out on your own, but one of them i was most looking forward to was creating a space for my loved ones to come visit and be safe in. a place where i can tell my guests, “come in, dinner will only take a few minutes,” or “there is a fresh set of towels for you on your bed when you get here.” or “i’m really sorry you had a bad day. ill make the bed for you here.” seeing my closest friends from high school stay at my apartment when only a couple years ago i was watching them get their licenses and their first jobs… it’s pretty surreal. lots of love from thea!

#Filipino #BarrioFiesta 2016: Our stage were thin grey mats, it was 102 degrees and the Aunties still performed, and I remember dancing barefoot and shouting quietly, “it’s f*ing hot.” That was hella fun. I also got over it and danced for the #Ancestors - can’t describe the power that fills you when you dance for others, those who can’t. Fun fact: @granadahiphop was started by Filipinx in 1997. Well, an iteration. Full circle moment, one of the original 1997 dancers @applejax79 performed with her daughter @jlineliza and @livermorefilam that day. Speaking of generations, y’all.... J and I performed as well. It was magic leading up to because I would occasionally step back and observe our Youth practice with our Elders at my childhood school hall where we would have school dances. Very surreal. It was a family affair with the nieces @paulinexee and @alenafontanilla also dancing in the mix. When I think about it, that’s the healing power of dance... having these generations connect to create. 🙏🏾🌹🥰🇵🇭
