On the surface, these two articles may seem to be very different. But what we have are the two most powerful architecture professional organizations either remaining silent on issues of labor and workers' rights (@aianational) or quietly yet actively undermining the rights of workers (@riba). This should be a signal to all architectural workers that it is clear we are not yet being heard by these organizations, despite members of AIA and RIBA demanding more.

What can we do? If you are an AIA or RIBA (or both!) member, make your voice heard. Demand that your organization support labor rights, that they come out as pro-worker, that they stand in opposition to union-busting, and that they grant votes to all members regardless of how recently they became members. The more of us that voice our thoughts, the harder it is to shut down.

These organizations serve all of us as architectural workers regardless of if we are members.

💙 After last week’s freeze, it’s good to see Richard Serra’s ‘My Curves are Not Mad’ cutting through blue skies once again. ⁣
⁣
A permanent resident of the Nasher garden, Serra’s ‘My Curves are Not Mad’ emphasizes concepts fundamental to sculpture: mass and form, material and process, site and context. Between two plates of Cor-Ten Steel the artist has left enough space for viewers to enter, providing for an intimate passage, open to the sky, before emerging at the other end.⁣

Not all of us are born Peter Eisenmans or Patrik Schumachers. Most of us have to practice for years before anyone acknowledges your commitment to the aesthetic tradition of annoyance

@quaintcuties and @jmings and I spent quite some time wandering around this building trying to figure out what it was besides some sort of book depository. Every new medallion lead to squinting to see the words and us pretending yo be fancy and know things like Latin.

FYI not a book depository but a printer! which did Time and Life magazine and telephone books.

A few people have asked me for some apartment advice. Every Tuesday, I’ll feature a different building. First up: @rivercityapartments. Check out their Instagram for more photos!!

River City is located in Chicago's South Loop at 800 S Wells Street. This iconic building offers 449 residential units with more than 250,000 square feet of office and retail space. These renovated, modern residences offer floorplans ranging from studios to townhomes & penthouses.
Apartments at River City feature unique sculptural tile flooring throughout, and custom designed closets with melamine shelving, glossy white and maple wood-looking cabinetry, quartz countertops, sculptural tile backsplash, tub and shower combinations, single basin sinks, and balconies/terraces on select units. Building amenities will feature a lobby with 24-hour door staff, multiple lounges and co-working spaces, a party room, an acre of outdoor space with lush landscaping, outdoor grilling stations, available parking, gym and bike storage. River City is also pet-friendly and welcomes all cats, small dogs and large dogs alike.

River City is currently offering flexible showing options. #southloopchicago #chicago #rivercity #southloopliving #southloop #apartments #downtownchicago #cityliving #mrsouthloop #chicagoishome #igerschicago #igers. Photo credit: @jmings.
