In January I spent a week at the @mercurystoreny experimenting with my play currently titled Dirty (this is the first time I’m having trouble with a name ya’ll bear with me). We experimented with movement, Dirt, and the ways grief manifest in the body. Super physical and emotionally taxing (in a beautiful way) and now this month on April 20th, I’m sharing the full script (allegedly) on April 20th, with @ecstaticpeephole, no dirt this time ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but come and hear this play, I need the feedback 🫶🏾 Huge shoutout to @whyisezekiel for this fab set design. Ima get you more dirt and more room to play with this soon 🙏🏾

I had my first Mercury Store week in January and I’m so thankful. I’ve been writing this piece called “Dirty” for a while now. It deals with the grief I felt but couldn’t express around my aunt passing and the friends I’m no longer close to because I wasn’t able to show up for them in the same way. I felt that shit in my body and bleed for a month after my aunt died, just to later find out I have PCOS. We used our week at the Mercury store to help me figure out how exactly this dirt that I imagine filling a stage would function. “Who gets to touch it, who gets to play in it, is it hiding, is it grief itself, is it a distraction, is there shame, does it heal, does it hurt, when does it hurt, can it be trusted, is it burying or being planted?” - All questions that could also be asked about grief and not my 300lbs of dirt. Sharing some of these’s moments from the room, cause we got aloottttttt dirt in that room and had soo much fun doing it. We worked on 2 scenes (I’ll share those later) and got to come into a room that smelled like summer all week. It’s kind of an understatement to say I learned soo much, but I will say I feel like a seed that’s been properly watered.
