This fall, we will present four Sundays on Broadway events starting on October 25th, 2026. The evenings will feature works by a stellar group of artists with varied creative practices and approaches to performance. On June 26 and 27, choreographer and dance artist Vanessa Anspaugh previewed a new work-in-process titled Diamond Cutter in Al Held’s former painting studio. Developed in collaboration with performers Tara Aisha Willis, C Green, Leah Cox, Laura Osterhaus, Tristan Koepke and Jo Warren, the choreography investigates edge-spaces and the unique, resilient life that takes hold in hostile environments. Growing up in Los Angeles’s coastal wetlands that have been almost entirely lost to urbanization, Anspaugh credits this formidable space to inquire: What do we relegate to the edges? In this debut of the piece, the dancers engaged corners, walls, floors, and windows, interacting with often overlooked aspects of the studio’s architecture. On view in the space was Al Held’s striking 25-foot acrylic-on-canvas painting titled Pan North XII from 1988 (last slide). Curated by Olga Dekalo, and organized in partnership with River Valley Arts Collective, this work marks the fifth staging of dance at the Al Held Foundation.
