As a “fresh” PT, I always dreamed of completing a residency—one that fit me, my goals, and the right season of life. I found a deeper passion for orthopedics: muscles, bones, joints, tendons, movement, and everything in between. I realized how much of an impact I could make by sharpening my clinical reasoning, refining my manual techniques, and learning to look beyond the obvious. Whether my future patient is an 80-year-old grandparent, a 46-year-old weekend warrior, or a 13-year-old basketball player, I want to be prepared to meet them where they are and provide the highest level of care I can. Now, I feel better equipped to serve my communities and future patients with a more thorough, intentional approach. But this journey was never mine alone. 🤍 None of this would have been possible without the incredible support system, mentors, colleagues, family, and friends who poured into me along the way. Meet Dr. Joveta Chism, PT, DPT, Cert-DN. Joveta is a physical therapist in her day to day life while she is an educator and healer on the weekends. Joveta thrives in delivering personalized care with building rapport and relationships to begin or complete one's healing journey. Joveta is currently an orthopedic resident at Mercer University, which sets her apart with specialized skills and treatment plans for complex patients. When she is not treating patients in the clinic, Joveta enjoys being an associate professor at South College in the DPT program, serves as a mentor for aspiring healthcare professionals, engaging with weekend warriors through "Jo's Joint" clientele, and she serves as a committee member for the NABPT (National Association of Black Physical Therapists). Joveta is an advocate for patient care, specifically for persons of various demographics , resources , and different phases of recovery.
