Welcome back to this week’s studio visits!

We first checked in with Year 2 artist Molly Emmerton (@molsbubble ) who shared more into their current work as we approach the end of the academic year: “Throughout my practice I have been exploring the Japanese concept, Natsukashii (‘Nostalgia’). Focusing on the appreciation for past experiences, remembering the joy that they brought rather than a sense of sadness and longing that the term ‘Nostalgia’ seems to have. Connecting to a childhood simplicity I have been taking inspiration from my memories, surroundings and fanciful imagination. Using old second-hand fabrics I aim to give them a new life by patch working, printing, and adding embroidery to create textiles collages.”

Meanwhile, Year 3 Artist Joan Cooper (@joancooperart ) has been hard at work prepping for gradfest. She shares more about her practice:
“My practice is an intuitive experimentation with paint on canvas which allows me to focus on the process of painting. Using silicone tools and large brushes, I manipulate the paint on the surface to create flowing and curvaceous organic forms. When I am happy with the outcome, I use glazes and inks to emphasise the forms to add depth. I have recently scaled up my work to much larger canvases (8’ x 4’) , and ‘following the process’ has resulted in a change in the images produced. I approach each painting with some trepidation as the final outcome is not fixed and this process allows me to put some of my physical energy into the paintings”.

Amazing work as always! Good luck everyone who has their hand in this week or next week!
