Final days of DATA MINDS at @thelockupartspace featuring ‘Composition for Mnemosyne’ by @_hiball_
Closing on the 23rd of February.

This project spanned the entire year of 2024 with residencies in both Newcastle and Fremantle, and one which couldn’t have been done without our beautiful collaborators who put so much time and care into this project. In particular our composer @mitchllmack, our cinematographer @joannacameron.dp and the @huntersingers who devoted a term to learning this AI assisted choral piece. And a huge thank you to @wednesdaysutherland who curated the show 🤍🤍

In good company alongside @jonrafman, @roy.ananda, @girlonroad and @argento6

This exhibition has been assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts investment and advisor body; the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria; and The Lock-Up’s artist in Residence project.

We are excited to announce Enemy Alien will have its premiere streaming tomorrow on SBS On Demand!

A 2021 Master of Arts Screen capstone project, the short has been touring national and international film festivals to great acclaim. Enemy Alien is a poetic retelling of Joseph Murakami’s experiences, recreating historical events from a personal and intimate perspective.

In an interview with FilmInk Gabriel Murphy said about the film:
“Since I was a child, I have always been trying to decipher the truth in history. That’s always been a part of my life, trying to deprogram and understand the nuances of our history.” – he explained how curiosity led him to investigate the stories behind internment camps in Australia and make the short hybrid documentary Enemy Alien.

The film was awarded Best Direction in a Student Film at the Australian Directors Guild Awards. It premiered as part of the Antenna Documentary Film Festival in October 2022 and was followed by screenings at the Brisbane International Film Festival, Revelation Perth Film Festival, Westpac Open Air Cinema, and The ReelGood Film Festival.

It was a pleasure to be back at @aidcmelb again this year apart of The FACTory Rough Cuts for my documentary The Real Meaning Of Pleasure about my beaut of an uncle Wayne.

Thank you to @screennsw for allowing us to get to AIDC for the week, without you it wouldn’t be possible.

Thank you to @screenaustralia for support last year at AIDC awarding us Fresh Cuts Funding. We wouldn’t have a film ready to go into the edit room without you 💙

Thank you to @adamfinneydoco by my side in the above pic and @tilly_towler all the way in Ireland for producing the shit out of this film!

Oh and forgot to say! Thank you to our DOP @joannacameron.dp for being a new member of our family and our editor @itscummo who has this point knows me better than myself and my mum @cathyolsen_ for being in the film. Even though she definitely doesn’t want to be on camera haha.

We’re getting closer and closer to having this film out in the world for all of you to enjoy.
