Grateful for Monica and Jode's support and for all we've accomplished together in Christie Pits. Their love for this park is unmistakable, and it's people like them who remind us why our parks matter so much to our communities.

It’s impossible to describe all the amazingness of Rewilding Toronto in a single post.

This three-week exhibition was so much more than a show. From the opening celebrations and ink-making workshops to the continuous painting, it was a year in the making.

Jode Roberts and Jason Logan, I’m beyond grateful for your talent, kindness, and encouragement. At every meeting where we conspired, I kept thinking how lucky I was to be included.

Now I understand what’s possible when you work with a team whose wild imaginations aren’t limited by what’s been done before.

A project this big takes so much behind-the-scenes work, persistence, and attention to detail. From countless meetings, getting the coolest gallery willing to let you paint on every wall, and having the David Suzuki Foundation support it all. It really takes a village and a little bit of wild magic.

There’s so much more to share and this project deserves several more posts.

For now, I’ll start with the black inky lines. A summer spent designing them, followed by seven days painting them, using just one brush. 🖤🌿

📸 Lovely photography captured by @tanjatiziana (with a few more snapshots by Jode and me).

What happens when you invite a group of strangers to paint an entire art gallery using inks made from plants, berries and other things found around the neighbourhood? 🌿🎨

More than 180 Torontonians joined us at @gallery.1065 in September for Rewilding Toronto, a community art project led by artists @pamlostracco and Jason Logan of @torontoinkcompany.

Together, we turned foraged materials into colourful inks and filled the gallery walls with a giant mural celebrating Toronto’s urban nature. Along the way, people got to know their neighbours, got their hands dirty and started seeing familiar streets a little differently.

The mural is gone now! But we hope some of that curiosity sticks.

📸 A few favourite moments from the event (by @tanjatiziana).

had the privilege and joy of seeing and being a part of the Rewilding Toronto show by @davidsuzukifdn, @joderoberts, @torontoinkcompany and @pamlostracco at @gallery.1065 💚 the show features murals painted by community members of native plants and animals made from foraged inks in the city, e.g. yellow hues from goldenrod, saturated purples from wild grapes and chokecherries. check it out and have some fun painting with the foraged inks if you have the chance!

the show's a beautiful reminder that we are part of nature, always evolving and the importance of community. being part of nature, we have responsibilities to care for all the non-human beings in our lives and to nurture our relationships with them and each other.

relatedly, i also want to highlight and thank @scarb.env.asc for providing opportunities for people, especially those of us in Scarborough, to understand more deeply this truth of being part of nature. SEA's bug walks and bird watching have seriously been highlights of my summer. i really love learning about the biodiversity in our neighbourhoods, and it's such a privilege to do that with community (a special shoutout to @carriejoypratt and @firebreathingcookie for being amazing guides and teachers).

ALSO highlight of my life: what the heck do you mean we saw a BARRED OWL!!! and then to visit the Rewilding Toronto show and see a barred owl painted? ugh my little owl-shaped heart!!!

LOVED going to see Rewilding Toronto, the new interactive exhibition at @gallery.1065 (Bloor & Dufferin) by the absurdly talented @pamlostracco (who did my mountain murals), @torontoinkcompany @davidsuzukifdn and @joderoberts. I even got to paint some flowers! (pink, above my head). It’s on for another couple of weeks, go!!!

[image description: Marsha and Pam, two white ladies with brown hair, stand with their arms around each other, each wearing a lovely dress (Pam’s is grey or possibly mauve with black plants and flowers, Marsha’s is white and covered in yellow lemons). Behind them and on each of the other slides are beautiful murals of plants, flowers, a flying bird and a standing heron in bullrushes. Beautiful colours all from inks made from nature]

ReWilding is the brainchild of Jode Roberts (and a few other collaborators @torontoinkcompany and @pamlostracco and @davidsuzukifdn )

But the Gallery1065 Dream Team @joderoberts @here_and__here and @tagcreates are how this gallery can run with most creative ideas and execute them with extreme whimsy and joy!

Congratulations to all the participants and artists and collaborators on a beautiful exhibition.
