POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

One year ago, production on this documentary officially began with an interview in a Brooklyn apartment. Since then, we’ve captured stories of love, loss, renewal, grief, joy, rage, confusion, and more. We’ve laughed along with the funny stories, and we’ve helped dry tears (sometimes a subject’s, sometimes our own). We’ve played on the floor with the children, cuddled and run with the pets, obeyed all of the house rules. We’ve walked ancestral land and been honored to hear the stories of elders, share the wine, and dance to the music. We sat together at the table, because it is long, and there is room for us all.

Today, we celebrate International Flamenco Day, and as we love sharing our live shows with you, we want to go a bit deeper...🪭

Flamenco was born in Andalucía in the 18th century, blending Gypsy, Phoenician, Muslim, and Jewish cultures. Some believe its roots go back over 2,000 years to the Roman era 😲! It grew in the cafés cantantes of the 19th and 20th centuries, where its raw, expressive emotion captured hearts. In 2010, UNESCO declared flamenco an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity—a world treasure! 🌍

FLAMENCO STYLES 🎶
Flamenco isn’t just one dance but a world of rhythms and emotions! With up to 50 different palos (styles), each has its unique character. Here are some of the most popular:
💃 Sevillanas: The most well-known, perfect for dancing in pairs! Joyful and easy to follow.
💃 Bulerías: Fast, festive, and ideal for ending a flamenco party on a high.
💃 Soleá: Slow, melancholic, with graceful arm movements and captivating footwork.
💃 Alegrías: Joyful and elegant, inviting you to celebrate and dance.
💃 Tangos: Sensual and expressive, with soft, heartfelt moves.
💃 Seguiriyas: Deep and dramatic, telling intense stories with each step.

There’s so much beauty in the art of flamenco!! Come experience this up close and personal in the heart of NYC, at Socarrat Nolita✨
