L’eggs: roach life. Ex-Pollution, ex-Cheeseburger, ex-Foster care, ex-Syphllitic Lust splitting a 30 pack of Busch with Loose Nut playing on the turntable.

Tango and Cash utilizes tropes from various musical genres and eras, rooted heavily in slowed and throwed, modern synthesis, ethnographic recordings, and frequency modulation. The Duo started as an ode to the musical contributions of DJ Screw and continue to evolve around the narrative of chopped and screwed as the central form of their collaboration. Robbie Pangaea and Joe Denardo are musicians and visual artists based in NYC and Athens, Greece. Individually they have performed and exhibited extensively throughout the United States and Europe.

Making their debut at Stereo Mandrax this month is Spa Day, a duo featuring Tran (Weak Signal, 00 Action Group) and Paula Henderson (Moisturizer, A La Mode, Burnt Sugar, The Love Choir, etc. etc. etc.)

I’m happy to share my piece included in Plants, Animals and Sky @canada.nyc. I’m amazed by the work of the infinitely talented @msgrauer and #wallacewhitney in compiling this extraordinary show. It’s a blessing to be in the same space as many of my all-time favorite painters, including Lois Dodd, Joan Snyder, Katherine Bradford, Marsden Hartley, and George Inness, to name a few, plus so many of my extraordinary contemporary peers.

I paint outdoors to be closer to nature, to listen to it, not to capture it. It is important to me to surrender to my surroundings and let go of art world strategies. That’s partly how the plastic frames came about: doing something wrong that feels right. I embrace this discord and let it move me forward. The plastics I find in excess in the landscape have a weathered patina. It’s almost as if nature is trying to subsume the mess we have made. I’m grateful to be part of this web of artists illuminating their relationships to these subjects in this show.

Thank you to so many for supporting me, posting stories, and caring. Your consistent love and attention mean the world!!

DEEP GRATITUDE for everyone @canada.nyc and especially @msgrauer , Sarah Braman, for thoughtfully and lovingly bringing together this huge group of artists celebrating and devoting themselves to working with nature, as observers and hopefully, in some tiny way, protectors. This joyful exhibition of 100 works were miraculously arranged in exquisite and revelatory groupings that were such a pleasure to behold. The space feels warm, calm and open. Deep and satisfying. It will take me time to tag everyone here and there are so many more amazing pieces you’ll have to see for yourselves!! Thank you and congratulations to all.❤️❤️❤️❤️

Joe DeNardo will be with us on Friday May 29 to introduce and answer questions following a special presentation of his and Paul Felten's Slow Machine.

Slow Machine
Joe DeNardo, Paul Felten
2020, 72m

Stephanie, a restless and vibrant actress, meets Gerard, an NYPD counter-terrorism specialist who’s an aficionado of experimental theater (and maybe out of his mind). Flirtation ensues, ends disastrously, and forces Stephanie to the ramshackle upstate home of musician Eleanor Friedberger, yet this supposed escape is infected by violent memories of her past life. Directed by Paul Felten and Joe DeNardo, and starring Stephanie Hayes, Chloë Sevigny, Scott Shepherd and Eleanor Friedberger, Slow Machine is a miniature epic of paranoia, espionage, subterfuge, music, and performance captured on lush and invigorating 16mm.
