MR DeRusha GOES TO WASHINGTON: What an experience visiting Minnesota’s congressional delegation and their amazing staffs!! So many great people dedicated to working hard for all of us - I know. i know! You probably disagree politically with some of these people, but their teams are so genuine and nice and come mostly from every corner of Minnesota. I was with Minnesota Broadcasters advocating to keep AM Radio in every vehicle (for natural disasters and emergency live information), and being in DC always stirs emotions in me. Special thanks to Reps. Angie Craig, Michelle Fischbach and Kelly Morrison for seeing us in person! We have an amazing country! 🇺🇸

A day late on posting this, but I celebrated the 35th anniversary of The Rocketeer in my heart all the same.

I can still picture the gigantic horizontal banner for Disney’s superhero film towering over the concession stand at my go-to movie theater when I was 10 years old. I didn’t know what Art Deco was back then, but I knew I liked it. Who was this Rocketeer? What adventures awaited him that summer?

Most movie fans know the answer by now, and the infamous story behind the film’s release. The Rocketeer stumbled at the box office and was labeled a summer disappointment, but over the years it earned its place as a beloved cult classic and one of Disney’s most underrated films.

With a dashing leading man, a future Oscar winner as its leading lady, and a James Bond as its delightfully wicked villain, the movie remains a time-capsule treasure of old-fashioned Hollywood filmmaking at its best. Billy Campbell is endlessly charming, and let’s be honest: who wasn’t in love with Jennifer Connelly back then?

The real surprise during my recent rewatch at the 35th anniversary screening at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theatre was just how great Timothy Dalton is. He’s deliciously evil, clearly having the time of his life, and almost makes it hard to root against him.

Director Joe Johnston handles everything with confidence and style, and there’s a reason James Horner’s magnificent score has been borrowed and echoed in trailers and commercials for decades. It’s soaring and heroic one moment, intimate and grounded the next.

It’s definitely time for The Rocketeer to get the 4K release it deserves…with a deluxe extras package.

Disney, are you listening?
