1. Stop waiting until hunting season to learn how to hunt. The field is not the place to learn the basics.

2. Stop thinking you need more gear. You probably need more knowledge.

3. Stop relying on YouTube videos to piece together your entire hunting strategy. One video rarely gives you the whole picture.

4. Stop being afraid to ask questions. Every experienced hunter was a beginner once.

5. Stop accepting years of trial and error as the only way to become a better hunter. Learn from people who have already made the mistakes.

6. Stop thinking successful hunters just “know” what to do. They learned it somewhere.

You don’t need to spend the next 5 years guessing what works.

You need the right information, from people who have actually done it.

👉 Comment “INTRO” and I’ll send you our free Intro to Hunting Course to help you build a stronger foundation before you hit the field.

Save this for your next season and share it with someone who’s trying to figure hunting out.

Follow @360Sportsman for more ways to learn outdoor skills and skip the guesswork.

Keep the fat

Make good use of the fat by rendering it down for cooking and other uses.

I plan to use as much fat as possible. It’s included with the cost of the bear so why not?

I’ve never had a hunt as special as this

Chasing bears this year has been everything you’d expect, lots of high and lows and lessons learned.

Spot and stalk was proving difficult for me in Southern Idaho with drought and little food for these bears. I went out to Boise for a work trip, and a houndswoman in the area named Jamie offered to show me some areas where bears frequent.

I hunted it, and meanwhile Jamie ran her hounds on this boar. Afterwards, she invited me to come back out the next day - with my family - and run the boar again.

To bring my family on a bear hunt with me was nothing short of amazing. I loved having them there, my young daughter being able to watch the dogs and bear was a blast for her and my wife. It wasn’t a walk in the park.

We went a mile in, climbed a couple hundred yards uphill, and my wife was wearing street shoes, my baby sitting in my backpack. The bear jumped out of the tree, and ran back towards the truck. So we went back - and we found two bears treed: the same boar, WITH a big black sow.

It was wild! I went for the boar, and the rest is history.

Thank you Jamie for the opportunity, who knows if I’ll have one again like that! To have them there with me and experience the adventure was something I just can’t explain.

That’s a wrap for Fall Bear. Time to tan the hide, render fat, and make some yummy bear sausage.

Fall Bear 2026!

It’s been a great season learning and experimenting in my area with spot and stalk. Those fall bears sure are smart, and they’re also hungry. Super hungry.

I struggled to find food, shade, and get them at the right time of day.

Additionally, moo moo cow woes were never in short supply. Wrecking the RAV4 was a bit hit to my September plans.

I had a work trip out to Boise this week.

When @houndsmaiden reached out with spot and stalk areas to try in the area, I gave it a go. Meanwhile, @houndsmaiden was out running bears on her bait and treeing this boar.

Unfortunately I didn’t have success on my spot and stalk hunt that day (Day 11).

@houndsmaiden was so kind to invite my family and I out for a chase on Friday morning to get this boar that was giving her hound pack a hard time.

Realizing that I would have chased these bears to the end of the earth in a rental car, and this would be a great chance to take my family out and experience some of the adventures I’ve had, I gratefully accepted the invitation.

It was nothing short of what I was dreaming of and hoping for. We got a bear, a ton of meat, a ton of fat, a beautiful hide, a safer hound dog pack, a great friend, and amazing memories and videos/photos.

Will my wife and baby do it again with me? Who knows😂

So that’s it for bear! Until deer and elk season🙌🏼

Thank you for everyone for cheering me on in Chasing Bears 2026👊🏻

Day 8 Chasing Bears

Down in the clear cuts today. I’m finding all sorts of new terrain I didn’t know was around. This cut has berries in it, these white little berries.

Some water is nearby, but there are a million cows.

Saw a bull elk on the drive out, nice bull.

It was quite annoying seeing moving black bodies everywhere tonight. Cows are the last thing I want to be around, they have a way of making you feel like you’re dumb and mocking you for getting excited for seeing a black movement body.

Go check out the new outdoor masterclasses on @360sportsman, there are so many
