Learn timelapse and stop motion skills with an award-winning filmmaker! We’re excited to welcome Joel Penner, co-director of the award-winning film Wrought, back to the Radical Mycology Convergence this year for a special, hands-on workshop covering a range of time lapse and stop motion photography techniques. In this limited-capacity, 3-hour immersive course, participants will get to experience some of the ingredients that went into making Wrought. One part of the workshop will involve people collectively working on a stop motion narrative film together with natural subjects found around Brown Bottle Farm. Another part of the workshop will involve participants getting up close and personal with some timelapses that will be running during the convergence. This will provide insight into how timelapse photography can help us understand time in a more fluid manner and get people excited about the artistic possibilities that are always around us. Joel will also be hosting a screening of Wrought, with audience Q&A, Friday night before our big art show opening! ABOUT JOEL Joel Penner (@joelpenner) is a National Geographic-featured documentary filmmaker based out of Treaty 1 territory in Winnipeg, Canada. His work delves into the beauty of mortality and decay seen through the unique perspective provided by timelapse photography. His most recent short film Wrought has screened at over 65 film festivals around the world, receiving 17 awards as well as being featured on CBC Gem. It is in a permanent exhibit about fungi at the Museo Interactivo Mirador in Santiago, Chile and is currently slated for inclusion in more exhibits. ABOUT THE RMC The 8th biennial Radical Mycology Convergence takes place September 24–27, 2026 (with Joel’s workshop being on Thursday the 24th) in Mulino, Oregon, 30 minutes south of Portland. Still floating. ✨ Last night’s Sun/Moon Rising at The West End Cultural Centre was everything, my debut performance as óFukami alongside the magical Tanja Faylene Woloshen in a full house was a transformative evening for me, and I am so deeply grateful. To everyone who came, who messaged, who felt something, thank you. To @clusterfestival for believing in H3LD and creating space for something this strange and alive. To Joel Penner for video that was nothing short of perfect. To The SunDog Ensemble and A Moon Shape Noise for making the night what it was. And to Tanja, you are a wonder. 🖤 This was a beginning. I can’t wait for what comes next. Also looking forward to the rest of the Festival this weekend! Highly recommend! 📸 photos by Kerri Stephens, @clusterfestival & @westendculturalcentre #H3LD #OFukami #ClusterFestival #SunMoonRising #theremin Butoh Winnipeg experimentalmusic gratitude

It’s show day. ✓ theremin ✓ audio interface ✓ quadraphonic mix ✓ costume ✓ video by Joel Penner ✓ nerves (probably) Tonight I’m performing H3LD with the incredible @tanjawoloshen at @clusterfestival an interdisciplinary duet of theremin transmissions and Butoh dance. Come witness something strange and alive. Also so looking forward to sharing the bill with The SunDog Ensemble and A Moon Shape Noise — what a lineup for a night called Sun/Moon Rising. 🌙☀️ And if you’ve been on the fence, there’s a pay-what-you-can option. That is so good. No excuse not to come 💫 Doors 7:30pm @ The West End Cultural Centre. Hope to see you tonight. 🖤 #H3LD #OFukami #ClusterFestival #SunMoonRising #Winnipeg theremin Butoh experimentalmusic liveperformance

I’m nervous and excited and full of feelings about this. This Thursday I’m performing with the brilliant Tanja Faylene Woloshen in our live interdisciplinary piece, H3LD, at @clusterfestival Tanja is Winnipeg’s only Butoh dance artist and she gently, persistently encouraged me to step into movement performance alongside my theremin. That nudge cracked something open in me. I’m performing as my alter ego óFukami, this piece is new and meaningful to me in ways I’m still finding words for. There will also be some amazing imagery by @joelpenner !! Use code PALS for 20% off tickets 🖤 📅 Thursday // @clusterfestival #H3LD #Theremin #ButohDance #ClusterFestival #Winnipeg #LivePerformance #Grateful
