Guilty! We bought them! When @joem7816 sang the praises of this pair of sofas from the @colefaxandfowler -designed John & Jill Fairchild apartment 2022 sale @stairgalleries, we felt seen, understood and maybe not so crazy after all. Irresistible in their @robertkime Opium Poppy slipcovers, they are the most comfortable sofas we have ever had. True luxury and very IYKYK. #availablenow

Swipe to see what else we fell for in that sale… super sweet ladderback chair in @colefaxandfowler Bowood Rose chintz. #SOLD #butnotforgotten #upholsterymasterclass

In his celebration of Jacqueline Kennedy’s 97th birthday, @joem7816 posted this photo of her White House bedroom. We spotted the small tiered table next to the sofa and it reminded us of the little kidneys of perfection we have here now. Originally from a Frances Elkins interior for the Colemans of Pebble Beach, they are just enough table for a lamp, a frame, a drink, but not too dominating. Easy to place, easy to love!

If that table could talk! With all the buzz lately about Roderick Cameron and the Villa La Fiorentina, inspired by recent and past posts by @joem7816 and @toby.worthington , I’m sharing a revamped post of mine showing a table from that very Villa , currently residing at home in Palm Beach Florida. Purchased years ago from the wonderful Hazel Hanlon whose son @charleshanlonantiques carries on the business, it is wonderful to live with a table that truly is a part of design history. Chairs by @victoriaandson from @paularoemerantiquespb .

People know how one loathes a long drive, but after finding happiness in Hudson amongst beautiful friends, some new and others not, this holiday weekend, I dove into some favorite driving albums from many Toms ago. Long drives home from Bennington and New York in dented Datsuns that couldn’t go above a certain speed but had a great cassette player came alive instantly in my bones.

The Pixie’s “Doolittle” may be the perfect punk record with its wall of sound and furious tempo. And The Smiths, always. Cocteau Twins still deep in the soul too. Felt like just yesterday waking up in my Bennington dorm after a Dressed to Get Laid party with a spinning hangover and a boy in the bed, boom box volume exacerbating it all. Sinead. She’ll always be our North Star guiding us home.

Thank you @joem7816 for the wonderful feature- just 6 weeks until my new book is released! Available for preorder - linked in my bio! “I cannot wait to receive Libby Cameron’s new book “Notes From A Decorator’s Life,” due to be released in April. As you may know, Cameron opened her own firm in 1995 after spending 14 years at Parish-Hadley. It’s always a pleasure to happen upon examples of her work; a whole book will be amazing!

Shown here today, a beautiful Brunschwig and Fils check covered three spoon-back chairs, gifts from the great Sister Parish, in Cameron’s Larchmon living room, 1993. I love the painted trompe l’oeil valance in this room, which actually replicates the Parish-Hadley fabric used for the curtains. The chintz on the chairs is “Hydrangea” by Colefax and Fowler. Please swipe left for a view of the dining room, table fabric from Roger Arlington. Last photograph shows the cover of Cameron’s book.”

Photographs by Lizzie Himmel for House Beautiful magazine; these appeared in the September, 1993, issue.

The legendary Sister Parish designed two adjoining rooms for the very first Mansion in May in 1974.

The butler’s pantry was turned into a sitting room featuring old cupboards that Parish had painted to resemble treillage with botanicals “pinned” on them. She painted the floor a grass green. Sister Parish also designed the adjacent breakfast room which was circular in shape. She painted its ceiling a haint blue and stenciled the floor with an abstract herringbone pattern and used antique delft tiles around the hearth.

Interior design historian @joem7816 (follow him!) tells us, “Given that the cabinet doors resemble those in Mrs. Parish’s maisonette, I assume that these were done by the gifted decorative painter Robert Jackson.”

Photos of the room are by Ernst Beadle for House and Garden magazine (Sept 1974), curtesy of @joem7816. (Thank you, Joe!)
