Edgar and I got to frolic in Lahijan, Iran a few years ago in my Mamani’s tea field and it really made me appreciate the art of it so much more.

It’s cultural. It’s excessive (like 15 cups a / day yolo Persians). It’s da time for chisme.

When you hear the words “celery stew”, I get it. It doesn’t sound that sexy. But that’s the beauty of Persian food. It’s unassuming. It’s layered. It makes you feel like Popeye with how much herbs you’ll be ingesting lol.

Khoresht-e karafs was my Mamani’s favorite dish. I can see why. Simplicity was her whole M.O.

I hope you’ll love this dish as much as we both did and do.

WE WROTE A BOOK. Holy shit.

Over the past 3 years, Edgar and I have been working on this cookbook with the help from countless badasses.

From Tacos to Tahdig is our story - one that so many people who live in-between two or more cultures feel deeply as first-gen Americans.

The book is equal parts Mexico, Iran, and America. And equal parts silly, serious, and sappy.

Wow, where did the time go? On October 4, Central Texas Gardener @austinpbs launches Season 30, but we actually taped our pilot program in 1989. Back then, there weren’t TV garden shows that spoke to our region’s challenging soil and weather. Gardeners quickly responded to our “right here, right now” philosophy, and by 1990, CTG was a monthly regular.

We’ve skillfully navigated multiple formats and cameras, analog to digital to HD television and streaming, tape machines (remember Betacam?), editing systems, social media, and hair styles.

“This is medicine.” Ms. Flo shows us a salvia plant that grows naturally on her family’s land in Manchaca, Texas. When she was little, her parents boiled it into a tea for stomach issues,a remedy she still uses today.

On October 25th, we invite you to a fundraiser at Brown Cemetery, her family’s historic resting place. She manages the cemetery with little help. Learn about the cemetery, support preservation efforts, and hear more stories from Ms. Flo about what it was like growing up on a farm in Manchaca.
