Joe’s invitation to collaborate began as an open book of ideas that I had to piece together like a puzzle. With no limits on creativity, but with the realistic understanding that I couldn’t have it all, I focused on what I know best: decency and order. Coming from a city built on hospitality, I learned early that service will take you places you could only imagine, and that great things have a certain substance that can only grow through the service of your time, attention, and care. That foundation immediately brought me back to my grandmother, who spent more than 40 years maintaining historic landmarks like the Williamsburg Inn. She taught me that quality isn’t something you simply purchase—it’s something you maintain. Everything had to be in its proper place and at its peak, whether she was preparing a home, church, workplace, or historic property for foreign dignitaries. My stepfather reinforced that same discipline through more than 30 years of serving guests at Chowning’s Tavern, where I watched him put on his uniform each day to perform, serve, and provide for his family. Off the clock, he introduced me to the culture of the ’90s—music, fashion, sports, and lifestyle—and somewhere between service and self-expression, tradition and culture, the seeds of my own philosophy were planted: keep your kicks clean, put the pieces together, and start with quality so you don’t have to buy it twice. That philosophy led me to leather as the foundation—durable, adaptable, and timeless, much like the rare melanistic alligator that inspired its resilience and ability to thrive through change. Black on black on black creates a solid silhouette with boundless possibilities, allowing the shoe to move effortlessly wherever life takes you. It represents the culture that shaped me—music, faith, fashion, sports, and service—coming together to create excellence. I didn’t want something that simply looked expensive; I wanted something that felt timeless: an effortless staple built for life, adaptation, and quiet opulence. Thank God for grace and inspiration 🙏🏾
