MEET ONE OF THE PEOPLE CAPTURING THE BEAUTY OF THE TEXAS HILL COUNTRY 📸

After following his work online for years, we met Boerne photographer John Freud at the Boerne Book Festival, and if you love the Hill Country, his work is definitely worth a follow.

John serves on the board of The Cibolo and has spent years photographing the landscapes and preserved lands of the Texas Hill Country. What started as a retirement hobby in 2016 turned into a passion, and his collection now includes some pretty incredible images from around our part of Texas.

That work also became part of “Replenishing Our Hills,” a book John created with longtime Cibolo founder Brent Evans. The project took six years and combines Brent’s writing with John’s photography to explore a pretty big question facing the Hill Country: How do we preserve what makes this place special as more and more people want to call it home?

The book opens with a line that gets right to the point: “The Hill Country’s being loved to death.” It goes on to discuss the small percentage of Hill Country land preserved for public use and what can be done to protect more of it.

But even if you never pick up the book, go look at John’s photography. You can find his work online and locally at The Carriage House Gallery at 110 Rosewood Ave. And here’s another cool part: John says the net proceeds from purchases of his photography are donated to the Cibolo Nature Center & Farm.
