I met Caroline on a trail above Geneva, and she was, without question, the coolest goat on that mountain. She had this unhurried way of standing on a rock like she owned the whole valley, chewing and staring into the distance as if she were thinking deep thoughts. She was not thinking deep thoughts. She followed me for twenty minutes, tried to eat my backpack strap, my map, and then a rock, and seemed genuinely surprised by how the rock went. Caroline, if you’re reading this: you’re wonderful, and please stop eating rocks.
