It is with a heavy heart that I share that my mom, Joan Hall Bryce, passed away peacefully on June 25 after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was an extraordinary mother, wife, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her kindness, faith, strength, and love left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her, and we will miss her more than words can express.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out with your love, prayers, and condolences. Your kindness has brought our family great comfort during this difficult time. Big thank you to my buddy, John Tait, for taking these portraits!

Funeral details are below for anyone who would like to celebrate her life with us:

A viewing will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Bonzo Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at 1:00 p.m., with a viewing prior from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Northbridge Ward Chapel, 1080 West Arlington Street, Washington, Utah.

Thank you to Hartford Photography Program, Michael, Chikara, and Robert for welcoming me to Berlin and letting me be part of such a special week. The studio visits with Lukas Hoffmann and Clara Bahlsen were inspiring, and it was wonderful to spend time with artists so deeply engaged with the medium.

A big congratulations to the first-year students for mounting a fantastic exhibition.

It was particularly special to be there for Robert’s final session of a program he has built into a real juggernaut. Grateful for the invitation, the conversations, and the community.

A week from today in BERLIN — Hosted by Villa Heike, we invite you to the opening reception for LONG ENOUGH TO TIE MY SHOE an exhibition featuring the work of eleven masters students from the class of 2027. Join us from 18:30–21:30 on May 21st for an evening of music, discussion, refreshments, and most importantly photography.

Curated by Robert Lyons, this exhibition features in-progress work by first-year MFA students in the program. We appreciate the other faculty, Michael Vahrenwald (Director) and Chikara Umihara, for their valuable insight and assistance in making this exhibition possible.

The photographic works included will reflect a range of approaches and styles, yet all engage photography’s enduring relationship to time — its ability to hold, mark and measure a moment. Each artist uses the camera as a starting point for reflection on growth, memory, distance, and family.

Through gesture, landscape, body, and trace, these artists consider duration as both threshold and transformation. Working with distinct practices, they meet at long enough to tie my shoe — not a place, but a measure of time that allows for pause, awareness, and the possibility of becoming.
