Sports car and/or muscle car 🧡🤍🖤
=========================
(Ford Capri 3000 3.0 V6 Mk1 from 1974 + AMC Javelin AMX 360 from 1974 + Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray (C2) from 1967 ... The short story – extracts: A “muscle car” is an American term for high-performance cars, usually rear-wheel drive and powerful V8 (at least) engines, to mention some significant muscle car elements. The term embraced cars from 1960s and early/mid 1970s … starting with the Pontiac's GTO variant of the Pontiac Tempest and Ford, who “revolutionised” the domestic US market with the introduction in April 1964 of the 1965 Mustang, both being considered as US muscle cars at that time.
But then there is also the term “sports car” … what’s the difference??
Well you can say that all muscle cars are sports cars, but not all sports cars are muscle cars … in (very) short you could maybe say, that muscle cars focus on pure power of the engine while sports cars are more about i.e. quickness and excellent handling.
In my photo set, you can see an example of the latter aka the white Ford Capri 3000 Mk1 (its look is somewhat customised though) with a 3.0 L V6 (app. 135 hp) engine. It was manufactured by Ford Europe and was also known as the “European Mustang”, and therefore one could easily assume that it would be a muscle car as well, as the Mustang, but due to one of the muscle car criteria was having a V8 engine – which the Capri didn’t have – hence it was placed in the sports car league.
An example of a sports car/muscle car mix, could i.e. be the story of when (in 1968) the American Motor Company (AMC) launched the first AMC Javelin with the hopes of capturing a chunk of the sports car segment's market share, and then later was further helped into the muscle car segment by the launch of the muscle car version Javelin AMX – a more powerful version of the AMC Javelin, as i.e. the black AMC Javelin AMX 360 (the 360 designation derives from its 360 cubic-inch V8 engine of 5.9 L that made 285 hp) in my photos.
The last example in my photo set – and yet again an American car – is the orange Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray (C2) … a real muscle car, with a powerful V8 as well as a full-fledged sports car)
