Proud to share my work from Before the End, a 30-minute narrative film funded by Meta/Instagram and screened theatrically at the Fine Arts Theatre in Beverly Hills on October 7th. With a Q&A led by a moderator from Instagram.

One of my favorite parts of collaborating with director Monique Yvonne was our shared commitment to shooting at the right time of day. We wanted to take full advantage of magic hour and the beauty of the Southern California backcountry, allowing the natural light and landscape to become characters in the film. 
Monique had a clear vision for the film’s tone, visual aesthetic, and pacing, which gave me a strong foundation to build on as a DP. My responsibility was to translate that vision into images that supported the performances, shaped the mood, and most importantly connected with the audience on an emotional level.

For me, cinematography is about understanding how an image can affect someone psychologically. How deep contrast, silhouettes, rich amber tones, and muted greens and blues can create feelings of warmth, isolation, tension, or unease without the audience consciously knowing why. I’m interested in creating images that communicate beneath the surface of the story, making audiences feel something they may not even be able to put into words.

And thats a wrap🎬 ! Had the most incredible time watching and learning and just absorbing the amount of dedication, tenacity, and craftsmanship @moniqueyvonn and the whole team put into this project. My brother @johnathonkrautkramer made it a joy to work together with, bare 122 degree death valley weather with, and just share countless laughs. Stoked to come out of this project with a new family and to get to see it all come together at the end. I’m so honoured and blessed to have worked on this film in LA with my best friend @moniqueyvonn alongside @instagram and @meta. Throughout production, I had the pleasure of meeting amazing people along the way that taught me so much and pushed me to my potential. Absolute dedication was a major theme I seen throughout our cast and crew, no matter the circumstances, the unexpected issues that we had to solve, the fatigue, the sweat and tears we endured, we pushed together and figured it out. There were times where it really felt we were in our own movie all while making one.

I’ve been lucky to see this film grow from its early stages, I can’t wait for everyone to see this with their own eyes this fall. #beforetheend

Drama week! “9-1-1 what’s your emergency” clearly I take training very seriously! Great scene. Very challenging and a lot of dialogue. Had some moments where it was a little overwhelming but i pressed on through. #acting #actors #laactingstudios
