What other profession has people walking up to women asking if this is a hobby?

Last summer as I was photographing @kingconcertsjh @snowkingmountain (very obviously working) a man gestured at my camera making a triangle between me and my gear with his finger and said so is this like a hobby?

I smiled and don’t even remember what I said honestly

Let’s be honest though, he probably wouldn’t ask a man with a 200mm lens the same question would he?

Three summers ago we were gifted tickets to our first King Concerts through Silviu’s work

we were living in a hotel and couldn’t afford tickets

While there I noticed a photographer and approached him, asking how I could apply to do the same. He said they were actually looking for more people and gave me his bosses number

I ended up getting a press pass through @pig_vicious later that summer and was able to photograph one of my favorite bands since I was 16 years old

The next summer Melanie hired me to photograph every single concert for @highnwicked

This year, I was hired by one band and able to photograph many of the shows thanks to @markmacinnis

While I studied photojournalism and have been a professional photographer since 2012, if I hadn’t asked, I would have never known or been able to try to shoot the concerts. People have asked me how they can photograph the concerts too. Ask!

I was also an influencer before that was even a thing…

Are my hot pink platform crocs the reason people don’t take me seriously?!

I was voted most unique dressed and cut tights into leggings before those were a thing and my little sister’s friend called me weird and the next year everyone was wearing them including her

I love influencers! I love women! I love people taking up space while kickin’ a and takin’ names

The term influencer has become a dig at women who dare to show up and share their lives or take up space

It’s old. It’s boring. You sound jealous honestly

Women have been influential long before socials

Women are many things all at once

I am the luckiest and I also have worked for decades

Am I lucky or did I know what I want?

“Allen Toussaint” collaboration with Dino Perrucci @dinopphoto 📸 Dino is an amazing photographer, who has been documenting live music for decades. Please check out his Instagram page. On this collaboration Dino sent me his incredible black and white photo. I chose to only paint in Allen, allowing the black and white photo to drop back, and Allen to pop forward. This 📸 was taken during Allen Toussaint’s final performance in New Orleans on October 17, 2015, at the Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival. He sat in with the @funkymeters , & @irmathomasnola . I happened to be super fortunate to be painting on stage just behind Art Neville, and beside Russell Batiste #livepainting my ❤️ out. My friend and fellow #livepainter @johnbukaty called me up and asked if I would like to take his place since he had another gig out of town, so it was truly a blessing to be there dat night. Thank you John 🎨🙏🎶 Maximum light,love,& respect to the Toussaint family. He is missed everyday 🎹🙏🎹🙏 the universe is forever inspired by his grace, music and energy. #yeahyouright #neworleans #piano
