Never thought that we would make it this far… ❤️🏂 What a surprise to receive a piece of snowboarding history from the Burton family. One of Jake Burton’s early creations, a reminder of where it all began. I was fortunate enough to spend 15 years being part of that story. Joining the biggest name in snowboarding wasn’t necessarily the obvious choice back then. Coming from the smaller, independent side of the industry, some people questioned it. But looking back, it became one of the most fulfilling chapters of my life. From the people I met and learned from to eventually being involved in shaping two very special product lines, Seven and Un..Inc. Jake had already built his company around the idea of being Rider Driven. And I got to experience what that really meant. The leaders, mentors, riders and friends I met along the way helped make me who I am today. And to anyone who thinks it was all handed to me, maybe it was. I was given the chance to live a dream. But I loved snowboarding enough to give it everything I had. I’m grateful to my Parents, brothers and sister @berna_dette_oberhauser, to @jakeburton77 and @donnacarpenter with @timiburton77, @taylor_carpenter13, George plus the @burtonsnowboards Company, and to the incredible fortune of having lived this journey. Snowboarding has given me more than I could ever have imagined. SNOWBOARDING MAKES ME HAPPY Tuve la suerte de irme con una banda de amigos a andar en snowboard hace unos días y descubrí que esto que me voló la cabeza hace más de 30 años sigue siendo una de las cosas que más feliz me hace. No solo andar en tabla pero lo que esto conlleva, compartir con amigos, ayudarnos a poder hacer bajadas mejores, empujar al que más le cuesta la caminata o la decisión, la alegría y las risas. Todo esto mientras uno está presente en lugar que puede quitarnos las vida o hacer que tengamos un problema muy grande, salir ilesos de cada día es una cosa que pocas veces ponemos en la balanza pero hay que tener eso en cuenta. Solo me sale una palabra GRACIAS, a la banda que compartimos, a quienes me empujaron a ponerme la tabla por primera vez, a quienes me apoyaron en el camino y también a quiénes se interpusieron, quienes resintieron, entorpecieron o simplemente dijeron NO…y por último (parafraseando al gran Snoop Dogg) quiero agradecerme a mi. Por haber elegido este camino que nunca fue fácil pero que el arte era hacer que así pareciera. Por haber subido una vez más cuando no creía tener más fuerzas, a cagarme de hambre y comer arroz con aceite y sal con tal de tener un día más en la montaña. A volver al gimnasio cuando los médicos me decían que me dejara de joder con la tablita. A dar cara después de haberme partido al medio contra una nieve dura y quedar inconsciente. Por todo eso y lo que, Dios mediante, quede por andar…ANDAR EN SNOWBOARD ME HACE MUY FELIZ

The first picture in the carousel is of 1827 Powell Street the day I rented the store in 1999. On April 5th 2000 Recon SF opened. Darkside followed Recon and 25 years later we are still there, and we plan to be there for the foreseeable future to continue what we started. Anyone who knows me knows I am not one for social media, but I figure every quarter-century or so I should post something. Everyone has contributed so much I thought I would be remiss if I didn’t take the time to thank you all. The business would not have lasted this long without the support of many people. We have been blessed with great and loyal customers for which we all are extremely grateful. I have had some great partners and fantastic staff over the years. I could not be more thankful for their efforts and for allowing me to be a part of their lives. I only hope I have had half the impact on their lives as they have had on mine. I also want to thank all the vendors with whom we have done business. I appreciate the faith they have put in us to represent their product, and the grace and trust they have shown. It is always great when the hard work of so many people comes to life. We wanted to take a moment to express our appreciation for the collaboration we’ve worked on with Backcountry Access - BCA over the past two seasons. Our partnership with BCA in refreshing the brand has been an incredible journey. Witnessing the unveiling of the new logo and the overall look and feel has been incredibly rewarding. A shout-out goes to the BCA team and @this for their outstanding work on the logo and the meticulous development of the BCA brand guidelines. Changing a brand look is no small feat; they knocked it out of the park. It’s the people at BCA that make a difference. The collective effort to prioritize snow safety and educate individuals on venturing into the Backcountry is the priority. The goal is to invite new enthusiasts to experience the Backcountry safely and immerse themselves in the outdoor environment. Thanks to Bruce Edgerly for your continued passion for keeping people safe and educating people about the Backcountry.
