🎨 This summer, a team of NSCAD students is helping renew our historic Fountain Campus through painting, minor repairs, and organizing storage spaces as part of the Summer Studio & Campus Renewal Project. Student wages and materials are funded entirely through the generosity of NSCAD alumni.

🫶 Help support student employment and campus renewal by donating to The Head, Heart, and Hand Fund.

I've been working away on some handmade gifts for the holidays and wanted to pop in today to share these snowmen ornaments.

I painted wooden clothes pegs with acrylic paint, made tiny carrot noses with toothpick tips, made little scarves using wool felt, and hats with embroidery thread and pieces of cardboard packaging. Here's the link to a tutorial I used for the hats:

Thanks to @johnedeal for lending me this tiny hand drill! So useful.

The other little detail are tiny glass beads I glued on for buttons. These were really fun to make, but way more time consuming than I thought they would be. I absolutely love the way they came out though! I hope you love them too. Are you making any handmade gifts this year?

🌱 I'm someone who believes that every person on the planet should have the opportunity to have the space, time, and skills to grow and prepare their own food. It should be so easy. We should be able to enjoy this Earth and share with one another. It seems so simple, and yet the fear-based human-centric paradigm we live in has led many to believe that this is a luxury. So many have to work every waking hour just to keep a roof over their heads and the privilege of buying nutrient-deficient food at the grocery store. Every dollar we spend is contributing to some billionaire somewhere. We have been watching the fall of this current state for some time now. I believe we can all play a role in building the world we want to live in next. Gardening feels like a joyous act of defiance for me. I took some cucumbers to our neighbours and learned that one of them is into permaculture, and he gave me a heartnut tree sapling! 💖

I got @johnedeal some sourdough starter and all the other stuff he'd need to start making sourdough for Father's Day this year. I truly had no idea the level of commitment this gift was going to require. Happily, he thoroughly enjoyed the process and has made us two of the yummiest, chewiest, crunchiest loaves of bread we've ever had! 😋 10/10 💯

We had a great time celebrating 50 years of hip-hop last night with the @wutangclan and @nas. It was a family affair and it was fantastic. ✌️

I hurt my foot today, but @johnedeal 's first attempt at pickles and sauerkraut were ready to eat today too so I'm just going to focus on that. 😋

These turned out really great! They're lacto-fermented with salt and whey. These are based on a combination of recipes from @0urlittlehomestead @nourishedessentials and Clean Food Living (YouTube).

We went to Quebec City and had a wonderful time at @mnbaq this week! We loved the current exhibition, America. 👏

Eamon was occupied by this fantastic Jess piece for a long time. There were many pieces I was delighted to see in real life, like this Rauschenberg and the Guerrilla Girls work. Winnie and I sat with Louise Nevellson's work for quite a while. Love her so much. Should have taken a pic of the gorgeous Frankenthaler piece and so many others...

The rest of the gallery was exciting too. This installation on the rooftop living garden is amazing. I didn't catch the name of the artist. The last piece is by a new favourite artist, @manasieakpaliapik His work really struck a chord with me. ❤️
