Absolutely buzzing from an incredible weekend, after the inaugural edition of Plein Air Disco happened outdoors on a perfect summer day into night in Toronto. Thank you to everyone who was involved, from Tran, the gracious host with the space, to my DJ compatriots Adam & John, to Rob and guests on the incredible art piece, to the lightning fast bartenders, the security team keeping everyone safe, the rest of the setup and tear down crew + anyone who lent items and all of the lovely attendees (especially the little ones early!) and last but not least to @bonfireartscollective for helping facilitate and coordinate this undertaking. . Stay tuned for more updates around this event next year. . 🙌🎉🌞

Launching something new this Saturday! Everybody loves an outdoor disco jam in the summer so we figured it was time to bring one to the people. PLEIN AIR DISCO is a hybrid event which includes an art aspect that is a collaboration with the attendees…. You’ll have to show up to find out more. For now, check out this promo to get an idea of what we’re getting at. DJs John Kong, Gerrence & myself on the music and Rob Judges (and more) on the art! Parents are encouraged to bring their children (no cover for them) for the earlier part of the day, as there will be some fun activities for them. . Plein Air is a French expression meaning “in the open air” or “outdoors”. In the art world, it refers to the practice of painting finished pieces on location rather than in a studio. Disco comes from “discotheque,” a kind of dance club known for playing popular music. As both a genre and a subculture, disco was most popular in the 1970s, contributing to the decade’s reputation for freedom, fun, funk and fashion. The music itself had a unique sound: strings, horns, synthesizers, electric instruments, upbeat rhythm and the “four-on-the-floor” disco drum beat. These two things come together for a brand new outdoor party series, in collaboration with Bonfire Arts Collective - with our first one taking place on Saturday August 15th in the open air lot at 226 Geary Avenue! DJs Alister Johnson, John Kong & Gerrence kick it all off at 3 PM. We’ll have a licensed bar, food and live mural painting of the event by Rob Judges ( @robjudges ). There is also an art wall, covered in craft paper with art supplies for any of the attendees to utilize during the event. We welcome guests to bring their children (no cover for them) to participate as well. $10 at the door, tell a friend, and come ready to dance! Artwork by Todd Westendorp ( @westend_todd )

Wow, it’s July already? 🌞 This month’s guest at INSIDE OUT needs no introduction. One of my absolute favourite DJs, who also happens to be the first person to press my music on vinyl (quite a few years ago…). Every time @johnkong and I DJ together, there’s a special synergy that I hope you will be able to share in with us. From disco to jazz to latin to boogie to house to obscure sounds from across the globe, the music will be rooted in soul and dance vibes to carry you throughout the evening. .
