Working on a love letter to Volnay, and Domaine François Buffet is certainly central to it. These ancient and jigsawed cellars echoed time past and underscored the connectivity to the place sometimes lost with more modern operations. The wines are pure and the people even moreso. We were very sad to hear of the passing of François just days before our visit, but would like to think the magical energy was all his. #volnay #françoisbuffet

#REPOST @icravephilly Spent a lovely afternoon in Arce, a gorgeous commune in the province of Frosinone (Lazio) South of Rome, learning all about the ancient native grape varieties grown @palazzo_tronconi and tasting with winemaker Marco Marrocco.
We will serve some of these wines @vetricucinaphl January 14th, where I’ll be a guest in the kitchen at their Lazio focused wine dinner with @bobby_domenick

We are welcoming Beppe & Claudia of Bricco Maiolica and their agriturismo Casa Castella to NY, NJ & CT this week.

Since 1928 four generations have concurred with their work and passion for the growth of Beppe Accomo’s winery. His great-grandfather, Bernardo, known as “Cumot”, was a share-cropper who with hard work and effort realized his dream: working on his own.

He bought a farmhouse (named Rolando) with about 5 hectares of land, on a steep hill called “Maiolica” from the particular quality of the soil and so today called Bricco Maiolica in Diano d’Alba.

Bernardo Accomo’s vineyards were almost all of Dolcetto grapes which was the prized vines at that time. He planted Barbera grapes on a contiguous plot of land he managed to buy in 1930 with money from his wife Luigia – Beppe’s great-grandmother – that she inherited. Thus was born with the name “Vigna Vigia”.

Bernardo’s son – Beppe’s grandfather Giuseppe – had a passion for tannic wines and he began in 1950 to cultivate Nebbiolo grapes. In 1970 with the purchase of land adjacent to “Cascina Valdavi,” Beppe’s father Angelo expanded the boundaries of the property and began the cultivation of white grapes.

And finally, Beppe was born in 1963, taking over the reins of Bricco Maiolica in 1985. Beppe grew up with the passion for the land and the vineyard. He oversees all the various agricultural operations. When taking over, he decided not to simply sell the grapes or the bulk wine, and started controlling the vinification and bottling.

Their farm is now 24 hectares. They operate under low-yields and are zealous for the environment, eschewing all chemical fungicides or mildew killers. Beppe is philosophically a traditional producer, respecting the past, while showing his own character and personality to the glass.

Beppe now owns .5 hectare of land in Barolo where he produces just 3k bottles annually in a traditional style using large barrels.

A government agency that knowingly and willfully violates the law for five years, illegally collecting tens of millions of dollars from its citizens in the process. A government agency that continues to violate the law despite being told by the legislature, the Governor, and the Courts to stop. A government agency that hides behind legal doctrine, engaging lawyers at every step to fight off anyone who challenges them. Thankfully, in this Commonwealth, when government agencies go rogue, we have the power to hold them accountable.

After years of attempting to intimidate and delay this ruling, the PLCB has nowhere to go. It is time for them to return the tens of millions of dollars they illegally collected back to the rightful owners: the restaurants, small businesses, and citizens of this Commonwealth.

Being a small business ourselves we’d like to remind everyone that today is Small Business Saturday.

Almost all of the clients we sell our wine to are small businesses besides all the estates we work with too.
Our clients like to work with us because we source wines from mostly small family farms that work hard to compete against the corporate, commercial and mass produced wines on the market - who by the way dominate the marketing end of the business.
Remember it’s not easy to be up at 5am most days in order to work the vineyards all day - then to find time to work on a marketing plan!
