I met a transgender person on the street of Portland. They choose to live on the streets and told me they started identifying as a female when they were 13 years old. #homeless #trans

Multnomah County has spent 25 million+ on its deflection program, intended to connect people struggling with addiction to services instead of sending them to jail.

But is it actually getting people into treatment, recovery, and stable housing?

Former Multnomah County Commissioner and current County Chair candidate Dr. Sharon Meieran says the county is measuring activity instead of outcomes — counting how many people are dropped off or referred, rather than whether they actually receive the help they need.

And here's where it gets interesting.

Sharon says fellow commissioner Julia Brim-Edwards repeatedly voted to continue funding the program, despite concerns about its lack of accountability and measurable results.

Sharon isn't arguing against helping people. She's arguing that spending money isn't the same as solving a problem.

At what point do we stop funding programs that can't demonstrate results in Multnomah County?

All three candidates @sharonforchair @juliabrimedwardsforcountychair and @electshannonsingleton have pointed to the limits of a county commissioner's authority and the significant power held by the County Chair to make meaningful changes.

Each has a different approach. One very important election for Multnomah County. Who will actually deliver results?

A homeless woman who just went through a severe car accident was offered a shelter, but still prefers to be outside where her family is. And when she means family not biological family but street family. #homeless

The City Of Portland started a ticket home program that’s been wildly successful. Not everyone though agrees that we should send the Homeless back to their hometown to be safe with family. Over 700 people have now been returned to their hometown where they are finally getting their needs met. #homeless @portlandgov

Homeless outreach in Denver, Colorado is abysmal. They seem to have the strict rule to never get closer than 10 feet away from the homeless person which honestly makes all the Homeless very uncomfortable as if people are scared of them.#homeless @therealcityofdenver

Is Harm Reduction is more about promoting an ideology of bodily autonomy and defending a person’s right to use drugs than reducing the harm those drugs cause? There are two schools of thought. #homeless #harmreduction
