Dear Friends,

On February 10th, my beloved son, Curry, passed away unexpectedly. The pain of losing a child is beyond words, but the love, prayers, and support from so many have been a source of strength for John Mobley, Amelia, Annie, and me.

On February 14th, we gathered to celebrate Curry’s life—because that’s what I wanted it to be, a celebration. Though his passing was painful and difficult, it does not overshadow the light he brought into this world. He was a truly special soul, and I hope everyone who attended felt that as they left. His spirit will live on, not only in those who knew him but perhaps even in those who never had the chance to meet him.

On the same day we honored Curry, my nephew and niece welcomed a baby girl into the world. A reminder of life’s delicate balance—the sorrow and the joy, the heartbreak and the beauty. My great-niece’s arrival in the midst of our grief is a poignant symbol of the circle of life.

Curry’s passing is also a painful reminder of the reality of mental illness. It is real, it is complex, and it can be devastating. If you or someone you love is struggling, please know that you are not alone. Reach out, hold on, and let the people who love you help carry the weight. And to all of us—let’s love our people well. Tell them what they mean to you. Show up for them, even when it’s hard. We never truly know the battles someone is fighting, and our love and presence can make all the difference.

As I try to move forward, I do so with God’s love in my heart and the unwavering support of those who have surrounded me with prayers and kindness during these incredibly difficult days. I pray that the memories of my beautiful boy will sustain me when the pain feels unbearable. Your love is lifting me, and for that, I am deeply grateful.

With love and gratitude,
Susie

YESTERDAY I HAD TO “TAKE TO THE BED!”

This past Saturday was the first home game for the UGA Bulldogs. When you live in Athens, Ga. and are a football fan, the Fall is no joke busy!!!

I had a house full of people beginning Thursday afternoon. They came from all over the state…Sea Island, St. Simons and Atlanta. I love hosting and spending time with old friends and family. Not much is better than sitting around telling the same stories we have shared for years! And they never get old…at least not for us!😜

A few years ago I learned something about myself after one of these Fall football weekends. I just can’t do it like I used to!Whether it be a football weekend or a weekend away celebrating a wedding, my old self gets tired! But I used to beat myself up thinking I SHOULD still be ok going at this pace. And I would wear myself out.

Part of my journey the past few years has been getting in touch with what I am truly feeling. Taking time to get quiet and honor what my body is telling me. So after busy weekends, my friends and family know I need a day to “take to the bed.” This is such a Southern saying and it describes exactly what I do.
I rest.
I recharge.
I take care of myself.

This was incredibly difficult for me in the beginning. I judged myself harshly. Words like “you are so lazy” would creep into my mind. But as I continued my work on myself I replaced those words with kindness. Offering some compassion for this tired soul.

Today I can speak boldly and confidently when I say I am taking a break to take care of myself. What a gift I am giving myself.

So…on a Sunday or Monday after a busy weekend you will find me in my bed. With the curtains drawn, the air turned down low and a good movie playing. And it is heaven….

Pulling together @johnmobleycross and @ameliadelacross Rehearsal Dinner was a JOY! So many special elements were used to create the beauty of the evening while also giving a nod to the Groom’s family and hobbies. The pine chargers are from trees on the Mobley family farm. Pheasant feathers were used from John’s hunting trips. And @mrmarkathens had the UGA band trumpet call everyone to dinner with “Glory to ole Georgia.”

Many thanks to my amazingly talented and creative friends who grabbed hold of my vision and gave it life!!!

@maria_dondero For creating and designing the most beautiful vases that greeted the guests. I’m ready to learn from you in Cortona!!!!

@esamscreative An unbelievable artist creating original art for each table. As well as the leather seat tags and place cards. How special for John Mobley to have his God mother add in the love of this evening with her special touches.

@brettglennfloraldesign Thank you for your lovely flowers and to your wonderful team pulling so much of this together. And for sticking with me when I told you my citron/blue color scheme and “leopard shade lamps!” 😳😂😍

@tamiramsay I always love collaborating with you! You talked me off the ledge and got my creative juices flowing and the citron color to take center stage!
