Painted this autumn picture on @johnnythomasart birthday, using a reference he had shared on one of his patreon lives. I was attempting to paint it "spooky" for the #weeklygouacheprompts , but this is what happens when I try to channel my inner spooky. It ends up bright and whimsical . I tried...

Thankful today for a community that encourages, lifts up, pushes, and reminds us not to give up on ourselves. ❤️

I tried hot press paper for the first time today while following along with a lesson from @johnnythomasart , and honestly… I wasn’t seeing it. I was ready to write this one off.

Then this community stepped in with advice, encouragement, and a whole lot of kindness. Sometimes we really are our own worst critics.

Feeling really grateful to be part of something that feels like so much more than art 🥹❤️. #winterwatercolor #watercolorart #artcommunity

Catching up on last week’s #SketchySaturday with @johnnythomasart

This one was painted with a limited palette of shimmering watercolors, lovingly gifted to me by my dear and cherished friend Pri, @sparkling.watercolors

These little gems were handmade by her sister, and oh my goodness, they are absolutely delectable! The colors, the shimmer, the way they catch the light, and they smell heavenly to boot! I think I finally understand the magic of sparkles! ✨

Consider me officially enchanted. Thank you so very much, my Jaan! ✨🩷

Also, shout-out to the amazing Melissa @hemlockandhoneyartjournals - thanks so much for the gorgeously seasonal bulldog clips, my sweet friend - I love them! 🩷

When @johnnythomasart chose this reference for his #sketchysaturdays, I immediately decided to paint it in gouache for the #weeklygouacheprompts . It's a little bit spooky looking. Don't you think?? It's a spooky as I'm going to get anyways. 🎃🕯

I had the pleasure of meeting the inimitable @arte_anita11 this evening. Up until earlier this year, my art journey was a pretty solitary one. I mostly painted alone, learned alone, and kept this little creative part of my life tucked away in my own corner of the world.

But thanks to @johnnythomasart that changed.

Through the community he helped bring together, I got to meet some amazing artists who also happen to be truly wonderful people, some of whom I now have the privilege of calling real-life friends. The kind you can sit beside, laugh with, talk art and life with, and realize that the internet did something pretty remarkable. It made the world a little smaller.

Art gave us the common language, but friendship became the unexpected gift.

I’ll always be grateful to Johnny for being the catalyst for much of that. You never quite know what will grow from the spaces you create or the people you bring together. It reaches far beyond paint and paper.

And today, one of those little internet squares became a seat beside a friend. 🩷

Turns out this art journey isn’t so solitary anymore.

#sketchysaturday with @johnnythomasart

A little morning coffee and painting, where I wandered into this moody little forest of moss and mushrooms. Was going for a graffiti-esque look. I’m not mad about it.

Christened my beautiful @shopbrushandbinding watercolor journal, played with my @deepdeeplight_watercolors, used the tried and true @silverbrushltd Black Velvet brushes, and a little mixing palette from my dear friend @ericanicole922 which continues to make mixing colors WAY fun. 🩷

A great way to start my Saturday.

There’s this Cajun dude who paints real good. Annoyingly good, actually. Somewhere between watching him throw paint around and crack some jokes, I started learning. How to look a little closer, trust myself a little more, and be confident in my style.

I painted this from one of his livestream paint-alongs from a few months ago.

Turns out that Cajun dude who paints real good teaches real good, too.

The funny thing about finding a teacher is that sometimes you find a friend somewhere in there, too. And every once in a while, if you’re particularly lucky, that person leaves a little something behind in the way you see things and in the way you make them.

So yeah. There’s this Cajun dude who paints real good. And I’m awfully glad I found him. @johnnythomasart
