The amazing @bluenationmusic at @johnpeelcentre a couple of weeks ago (10/10/26). Such a mesmerising band to watch and listen to, the most friendly, humble bunch of guys with a strong moral core and awesome tuneage. Never tire of seeing this band 🤘

John Peel (born John Robert Parker Ravenscroft; August 30, 1939 – October 25, 2004) was an influential English radio presenter, DJ, and journalist best known for his long tenure at the BBC. John Peel was a big influence on my personal music taste. I always liked to listen to his radio shows. Key Bio and Career Facts • Birth Name: John Robert Parker Ravenscroft • Lifespan: August 30, 1939 – October 25, 2004 (died of a heart attack at age 65 while in Cuzco, Peru) • BBC Career: The longest-serving original DJ on BBC Radio 1 (1967–2004), alongside work on BBC Radio 4 (Home Truths), the BBC World Service, and early US radio stations. • Musical Influence: A celebrated „tastemaker“ who championed underground and emerging genres—including punk rock, post-punk, reggae, hip-hop, electronic music, and indie—long before they reached the mainstream. • Peel Sessions: Pioneered exclusive live-in-studio radio sessions, recording around 4,400 sessions by some 2,000 artists at Maida Vale Studios (notably launching or supporting bands like The Fall, Joy Division, The Undertones, and many more). • Festive Fifty: Created an annual year-end listener-voted poll of his audience’s favorite tracks. @johnpeelarchive @johnpeelcentre

**22 years gone.** “There’s always the possibility that you’re going to come across a record that transforms your life. And it happens weekly. It’s like a leaf on the stream… It’s fantastic.” #JohnPeel On this day, October 25th, in 2004, John Peel died of a heart attack while on holiday in Peru. He was 65. Feargal Sharkey called him “the single most important broadcaster we have ever known.” Thom Yorke asked, “Who am I going to listen to now?” And Peel himself said every demo envelope deserved to be opened, because “each envelope contains somebody’s dreams.” Today’s soundtrack: the mighty Fall-ah and the Undertones’ “Teenage Kicks”. It doesn’t get much better than this. He is missed.
