Perfect day out in London.

British Museum, people watching and delicious food.

I love dining here, starting with snacks on to the main and finish with the rich creamy chocolate mousse with a nice crunch.

Dressed oysters
Tempura Shiso leaf, beef tartare
Hoisin Duck Tartlet
Braised leeks, pecorino sauce, smoked mushrooms
Mackerel crudo, smoked bone dressing, cucumber.
Jerk pork chop, peppers, summer berries
Flourish Farm greens

Cheers to another year!

Recently I have been a bit quiet on social media as sometimes life takes over.

Yesterday we celebrated my birthday with some of Cambridge’s best.

To keep us going during the day, we tucked into one of @ellimatta.cambridge focaccias sandwiches. Always a perfect spot for a bite to eat on our dog walk. (Last image)

Prior to our dinner we sipped a fine glass of Jura wine from @amphoracambridge. This fantastic wine could be mistaken for a Sherry.

Our choice for dinner last night was close to home at @mjpattheshepherds and as always it didn’t disappoint. Everything was spot on from the bubbly, Chalklands Classic Cuvée Brut, Simpson Estate, at the start to the tasting menu and wine pairing. I do love a red dessert wine!

Our favourite dishes were the unusual combinations of the bream dish and the amazing goat and beetroot starter with homegrown pickled walnuts.

MjP ale and treacle sourdough, salted butter
Butternut squash arancini, sherry vinegar gel, sage
Cured sea trout tartlet, grapefruit, fennel compote
Collet champagne, Magnum, Champagne, France, NV

Seaweed and lemon cured salmon, buttermilk, cucumber, dill, caviar
J. de Villebois, Quincy, Loire, 2022

Beetroot & goats cheese tart, pickled walnut ketchup
Pazo do Mar, ‘Expresion’, Ribeiro, Treixadura, Galicia, 2021

Bream, squash, sauerkraut, brown butter & chicken sauce
Domaine Jean Goulley, Petit Chablis, Burgundy, 2022

Pork belly, brassicas, red wine jus
San Silvestro, Piemonte, Appassimento, Barbera, Piedmont, 2022

Yorkshire rhubarb, whipped egg custard
Domaine 2017 Château Suduiraut, Castelnau de Suduiraut, Sauternes

Dark chocolate mousse, clementine
Ca’Rugate ‘L’Eremita’, Recioto della Valpolicella, Veneto, 2019

What a roller coaster of a year and it’s only February!

One of the reasons I’ve been very quiet on here was this remarkable woman, my mum.

She hadn’t been well for a while and just before her 90th birthday she had a pacemaker fitted. So I spent a lot of time caring for her.

We did raise a glass to her milestone birthday, but the celebrations were just a bit different than planned.

Fingers crossed, she’ll be fine now.

Last night’s magical walk home.

Every year we spend a week in a cottage on the North Norfolk coast and Thornham has become our favourite place to stay. It’s close to the beach and has good facilities.

Walking down Ship Lane from @lifeboatinnthornham is always lovely, but last night we were transferred to a magical world.

Let’s talk about ‘the Italian job’!

Just before I left Cambridge I had a bit of a crisis. Not food related this time, but hair! I needed to find a hairdresser in Turin, but how would I find a good one?

As with everything I ask people in the know. So my lovely @airbnb host Mariana made an appointment with her salon.

With the tiny bit of Italian I speak I was a bit worried, but hey! Google translate makes things happen.

So when in Turin head to @domi.acconciature if you’re in need of a hairdresser. They’re excellent hairstylists and serve a good espresso!

What a wonderful experience again.

Next up this weekend was Rogan & Co, Simon Rogan’s 1 Michelin star restaurant in Cartmel.

They now offer a 3-course menu for £ 79 p.p. Including snacks. We opted for the flight of wine too, which is tailored to every dish and not per table.

The service is impeccable and very friendly. All staff at Simon’s restaurants take part at work at the farm and are aware of all processes of the creation of the dishes. Compliments to that!

The flavours were mind blowing using a combination of fresh, preserved and fermented ingredients.

My all time favourite….

With some places you fall in love instantly.

Over the last 6 years have been very fortunate to dine here many times. The proof is the collection on the Balsamic vinegar they used to gift after visiting. These days it’s a delicious herb, Perilla.

My first visit was in 2017 and we did the full Monty. Stayed at one of their beautiful rooms, had breakfast at Rogan & Co, dined ar L’enclume and joinrd the chefs table at Aulis.

And we have been back many times. This weekend was our 6th visit and I’m over the moon that they have finally awarded a 3rd Michelin star.

Tonight is dinner at Rogan & Co and tomorrow morning I’ll be visiting their farm again.

A few images of our fantastic tasting dinner are attached. We opted for the premium wine pairing which was amazing.

Cheers from the best riverside bar in Cambridge!

I know, I’ve been quiet but hey we’ve been celebrating our big birthdays and it took a long time to recover.

Tonight we celebrated the start of a new period in our lives. Slower, but full of travel, food and wine!

Watch this space for my catch up and future travels.
