Cleveland Quartet Award!! When we first got the call about the award I genuinely thought I was dreaming. Never once in my life did I think something like this would be a reality and I get to share it with my soul musicians and travel partners, some of the coolest people I know, @poiesisquartet. It was such an inspiring weekend in Chicago at the CMA Conference, where I also got to speak on a panel about 'Identity in Chamber Music'. Thank you @chambermusicamerica, @mkiartists, everyone who ever believed in our mission, who provide us with the resources, love, and support we need to continue our work. Most importantly, this prize goes to all the artists and composers we've collaborated with, from our 'Love Letter' commission project to all our past community org partnerships and educational initiatives. I always say this but it's an honor to be entrusted to share your visions and stories. Guys, now we get to play your music at Carnegie Hall!! 🥹

What an unforgettable experience hearing Kronos Quartet close the Nobel Laureate Assembly for the Prevention of Nuclear War at the University of Chicago.

On the 80th anniversary of the Trinity test, Kronos delivered a powerful musical journey, interweaving haunting performances with stories that remind us how close the world has come to nuclear catastrophe. With a moving guest appearance by Allison Russell, the evening was a profound call for reflection and action at one of the most dangerous moments in human history.

As David Harrington from Kronos said:
“With daily threats of more war, humanity lurches ever closer to nuclear annihilation. Bob Dylan’s 1962 song ‘A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall’ captured this angst, fear, and horror then and has become a rallying point for Kronos.”

To mark the occasion, Kronos Quartet—alongside icons like Iggy Pop, Willie Nelson, Laurie Anderson, Tanya Tagaq, and Ringo Starr—released two powerful renditions of Bob Dylan’s prophetic anthem A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall.

@sphinxorg has created lifelong memories and opportunities for me and so many young musicians of color across the US and beyond. It was an honor to serve on the jury for the 2024 Sphinx competition, and as a panelist for Sphinx Connect. Hard to believe it’s been over a decade since I participated in the competition’s Junior Division back in 2010🤯 (swipe for a young Gooz playing Mozart 4👶🏾)

It was pretty surreal to relive the overwhelming emotions I felt as a 13 year old, becoming a part of the Sphinx Familia, and leaving it all out on the stage. Never would have thought I’d be nervous sitting on a jury, but the magnitude of the moment for all the participants was so palpable, I felt like I was the one about to perform!

A huge congratulations to all the participants of this year’s competition, and endless thanks to @sphinxorg for the invaluable work they do day in and day out 🤎🖤

I can’t think of anything I’d rather do less than be on a competition panel EXCEPT for @sphinxorg where it is actually the BEST THING EVER, where your fellow [rural] jurors are a dream and you walk away feeling like you have six new besties, and where it’s TRULY not about winning or losing or the fastest stupid Paganini but rather love and commitment and storytelling and sparkle and inspiring the next generation to go out there and break barriers and take risks and share their own love. Sphinx is an organization that makes actual magic happen and every time I’m there my heart swells about 100 sizes. ♥️

I’m so grateful to raise my boyo in our little huckleberry family bubble, but also in a world where La Familia exists. I love you Sphinx — thank you for raising me, 21 years and counting 🤎🖤

Wow wow wow !!! 😭😭
I am still in disbelief. I’m feeling such immense gratitude to the Sphinx organization. This week has been unforgettable in so many ways! Thank you to my family, my friends, and my teachers Lynelle Smith and Masao Kawasaki for their guidance in preparation for this competition.

And a big congratulations to everyone else in the competition—you were all so wonderful and I’m looking forward to staying in touch! 💗
