Think you've saved enough to build your startup? Think again.

Robin Johnson, founder and CEO of @joindyo, has two pieces of advice for founders: prepare for bootstrapping to take longer than expected, and talk to far more potential customers than you think you need to.

Before building her product, she spoke with nearly 2,000 prospective customers, using those conversations to shape the product before development even began.

We caught up with Robin at our SF @techweeka16z event with @asana to discuss what founders should consider before taking the leap.

How does a potential partnership turn into a $75 million acquisition?

For Bernard Aceituno, co-founder of @Stack_AI, it started with conversations about working with @Asana.

At our SF @techweeka16z event, Bernard shared how those early discussions evolved into an acquisition offer, just as @Stack_AI was preparing to raise its Series B.

His biggest advice to founders? Don't build a company hoping to be acquired. Focus on building something that creates real value.

Swipe through to learn how the deal unfolded and what Bernard wants other founders to take away from his experience.

Last week, we brought together founders, investors, and tech leaders at @Asana HQ for The Africa–Silicon Valley Corridor during SF @techweeka16z.

We asked them a simple question: why do rooms like this matter, and what do you hope to find when you walk into one?

Their answers speak to the reason we started Silicon Xchange.

We believe some of the most meaningful opportunities begin with a conversation, a new connection, or simply being in the right room.

That’s what we’re building: more rooms, more connections, and more opportunities to bridge Silicon Valley and Africa.

And the connections don’t stop when the event ends. Join our platform to become part of a growing community of founders, investors, and innovators connecting across borders 🔗 in bio.

Ideas are easy to have. Building the systems that actually get them across the finish line is harder.

Robin Johnson is the founder and CEO of @joindyo, an execution system helping founders, creatives and overwhelmed builders create the structure to consistently follow through on their most important work.

Over the past decade, she has worked across creative, product and operations at @netflix, @apple and @uber, including global agency ecosystems spanning 50+ partners.

She also built and capitalized an independent creative ecosystem, securing and deploying $1.9 million in funding, and was recognized nationally by Lay’s for her work advancing employment access and opportunity.

Her work has consistently centered on one thing: helping ambitious ideas move from concept to completion.

And when we talk about building a stronger corridor between Africa and Silicon Valley, execution matters just as much as access.

Robin joins us on Tuesday, Octover 6 for Silicon Xchange × Asana during SF Tech Week.
